Modern Flat in Updated Victorian
About this house rental
Located in Buffalo, this charming house for $170 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. *Please be aware that there is a 2 (two) night minimum requirement* This beautiful and spacious apartment is its own floor in a newly-renovated 1890 Victorian. Conveniently located between Allentown and Elmwood Village, this neighborhood is vibrant, young, and central to all of Buffalo's top attractions. The house you'll be staying in was built in 1891, and is situated across from the former site of the William Fargo mansion. Fargo, founder of the Wells Fargo Stagecoach Company, was the Mayor of Buffalo during one of the city's most prosperous periods, and at the time this home was built, the owners would have looked onto the mansion's expansive grounds from the porch. There are two bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other has a queen bed. *Please be aware that there is a 2 (two) night minimum requirement*

Stayed at this great place with my partner and friend for a 4-day Bills home game weekend trip. Partner is originally from Buffalo and wanted to stay close to Allentown. Walked and took short Uber rides. Was a good home base for a day trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls. Will stay here again!

My wife and I have many friends who are faithful Buffalonians and are just great all-around people. So, we decided to visit Buffalo for our 40th. Our stay was AMAZING!!! My wife raved about this property, which has never happened before. It was modernized without losing its Victorian charm -- something that happens a lot with renos. The light switches did take a little bit to figure out.
Patrick (owner) was great. He promptly answered our many questions. (Thanks Patrick!!)
As for the location, this neighborhood appears to be bouncing back. It's located close to just about everything. Mind you, as one Buffalonian told us, you can get anywhere in Buffalo in about 20 minutes.
One thing that we didn't really realize until we got to the property is that there are two flats in this house. We stayed in the ground floor flat. Our neighbor upstairs was quiet even though we heard the floorboards creak as he walked. It wasn't bad at all, though. He had some friends over one evening. We didn't even hear them.
All in all, we highly recommend this property. It's very comfortable and you will feel right at home...especially if you like to play piano. The piano in the flat is a local product and very, very nice.
One final note about Buffalo. We love it! Just about every single person we met was super friendly and very helpful. When our car broke down in the middle of Porter Rd, two people hustled from across the street to help me push our car off the road. We'll be back!!

Don't let the outside fool you, the inside is beautiful. The neighborhood is a bit wonky. Was woken up both nights of our stay, at around 4am, to loud banging and fighting by the neighbors. Don't know if it's a common occurrence, but definitely changed the vibe

The house was so comfortable and we loved the historic “feel”. It was roomy and well-appointed; so close to museums and parks and restaurants. The perfect place to stay in Buffalo!

Lovely home with charming mix of modern and antique. Needs a house number on the porch—uneasy identifying property after dark.

This was a property we had intended to use only as a landing pad for sleep/shower while in town for my dad’s funeral. Turns out sitting out on the big front porch watching the neighborhood was the respite we hugely needed and was so grateful to have. A really beautiful part of of Buffalo, warm and friendly neighbors.

The neighborhood was great. Good walking and discovering restaurants, architecture, and stores. The porch in May was ideal as the weather cooperated. I managed a property myself for years, so have some experience about protocol and processes. I will also concede that I have not managed in the last 4 years, so protocols may have changed. The property was "fine", but, there were a few odd things that happened and they are as follows: 1. There was a request to offer a time on a Friday so the home could be inspected mid-stay weeks BEFORE I arrived. Not knowing my schedule I asked if that could be arranged when I was in Buffalo. The manager said, "Sure". The inspection was, indeed, arranged mid-stay after my arrival. I have never experienced that before. I never requested an inspection in the middle of a guest visit in the 5 years I managed a property. 2. This request for inspection was counterbalanced by not revealing the address of the home and codes etc. It was clear in the write up that it would not be divulged until the day before or day of (can't remember), yet, I was in Buffalo just hours from check in with no communication about location. I had to ask for it. 3. The floors of the home were NOT vacuumed. I vacuumed them. Yes, it was THAT gravelly. I knew this because I took my shoes off at the door. 4. I ran out of toilet paper and paper towels. I shared that I was almost out on Saturday evening. By Monday there was no response. I wrote again saying we were OUT. The manager replied promptly saying he could not communicate with me as he was travelling and did I want the cleaners to come bring some by? I did not respond. I was leaving at 5am the next day. I had gone to the store to get supplies. It was disappointing to not have access to back up basic needs without it being an issue around a manager not being available for timely communication OR just having a supply at hand in some area of the house usually not accessed by guests? Just some thoughts about that.....One last thing...I was at the house solo most of the time. My adult son stayed 2 evenings, which the manager knew may happen. What I discovered AFTER the inspection was that the back door was unlocked. I saw light coming through and discovered it was kind of open. I always checked that the 2 front doors were locked as I was in a strange (to me) town and neighborhood. Possibly, the door was always unlocked? Or it was locked then left unlocked during the inspection. That was UNCOOL!

Beautiful apartment! Lovely wood floors, beautiful leaded windows and that claw foot tub was wonderful! . There was always parking on the street and the neighborhood seemed safe enough and was quiet. We walked downtown to City Hall, about a mile or so, and were not afraid to do so. Owner/manager was easy to reach and there were no problems getting in… everything was very accommodating. Really Really appreciated being able to stay in such a pretty place at such a reasonable price!! Thank you Patrick for sharing this beautiful, historic apartment!!

The home was very nice, very clean and I felt at ease and right at home. It was very close to work and I was very happy about that. The bed was uber comfortable and the clawfoot tub was a great way to wind down. Thanks so much! I will revisit when back in the area!!

Check in was tricky in that Buffalo had a snow storm with over 18" of snow the day before my arrival. I was ready for some challenges though - I am from Chicago, so I'm used to snow. I arrived in the evening and the house wasn't very well lit out front so it was hard to identify. Parking was the biggest challenge with the snow and there only being street parking. There was no back up plan and clearing of snow was extremely limited - not the owners fault, but I needed a little assistance with how best to drop my luggage and then deal with parking. It got sorted out with the help of the upstairs flat tenant and temp use of their driveway to drop off my luggage, and them guiding me to a shovel to assist with parking. Again, I had no problem with doing any shoveling for parking - I'm hardy that way!
The property had deficiencies that I attempted to constructively communicate to the Owner after my stay, but they didn't want to hear it and were extremely rude in their responses. Some of the deficiencies included lighting was not great and inoperable - kitchen in particular. The under cabinet lights didn't work at all; and the microwave light had 1/2 lights burned out. The back TV room also had little lighting - 1 wall sconce had no bulb and the desk lamp went out shortly after arrival. The towel rack in the bathroom was literally falling off the wall; this was the only towel rack too.
There were also issues of cleanliness. Upon moving the ottoman to work out on the rug in the living room there was all kinds of crap underneath - there were also dust bunnies and other crud all around the perimeter of the room - not vacuumed well at all. Also, the kitchen island had crumbs on it and there were a couple dirty dishes in the dishwasher. This was concerning overall in the time of Covid especially.
There also was no info guide or binder like you typically find in a rental; so no info on WiFi log in (which I texted to get); also no departure check out instructions.
I can't, in good conscience, give this place a very high rating based on these items - but mostly based on the RUDE response I received from the owner upon sharing my various concerns. I even advised in that communication I wouldn't belabor issues in my review, but now I feel compelled to let others know my experience - and it was not great - with this owner. If you rent this place, proceed cautiously with eyes open. Thanks.

My stars say it all but happy to give this review. First, the entire area nearby this lovely home was very walkable with restaurants and cafes nearby. (Can't help but give Bellini's Italian restaurant a huge plug, reminiscent of a tucked-away old NYC restaurant.) Quick on and off the I-190 gave us quick access to other areas of Buffalo and surrounding areas with the endless array of restaurants. 2021 was COVID-closed for some of the museums and other sights but we knew that before booking and knew it would be still worth it.
Can't say enough about the home itself. We entertained ourselves on the front porch but the inside of the house was truly magnificent. From the updated modern kitchen to the old hardwood floors and old fashion tub. There was even room in the dining room for a piano, front hall closet, and TV room/office. A much needed get away for me and my husband. So happy with our choice.

I wish I could have stayed longer! Woodwork and windows were beautiful. The home has some updates that make it modern yet kept the charm of the house. As with all old houses the floors were just a little creaky but I slept wonderfully anyway! Barely heard the upstairs tenants. Definitely would recommend
