About this house rental
Located in Ohio, this charming house for $113 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. A.C. and Fire Pit, Hot Tub. Close to Athens Ohio. You’ll love my place because of the views, the peace, the fishing, the relaxation. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids). My place is also part of the Windy 9 for the Motorcycle enthusiasts or those who just want to enjoy some scenic rides through the countryside. The downstairs bedroom has a queen size bed and there are three additional beds in the loft upstairs. This is a cozy little place to relax and enjoy the peace and relaxation. Please note this is a cabin in the country. We try very hard to keep everything fresh. clean and comfortable. You will experience a country setting which includes often (not promised) seeing wildlife. We also have other country aspects. This is a small cabin in the country and bugs do get into the cabin at times. If this is an issue for you please ask about them before booking. We work very hard to minimize this issue but at certain times of the year they can be a nuisance. If you are looking for a pristine place to go this may not be the option for you. If you are looking for a super relaxing cabin and place to escape we feel this is an excellent option. We would love to have you as guests but want to make sure you are comfortable. Please don't hesitate to ask questions. We will answer as honest and accurate as possible. We want you to enjoy the trip you are planning and have a wonderful time whether it is with open season or elsewhere. This is a no frills cabin (except for the hot tub :) as reflected in the price. This means you will need to bring things like hand soap, all personal items, towels for the hot tub...etc. One bath towel and wash cloth is provided for each guest. If you want extra please bring some with you. Lake Dow is a short 15 minute drive. Lake has kayaks, paddleboat, Pontoon boats, a beach, picnic area, fishing and more to enjoy.

If you’re looking for privacy and nature, this is your spot! My husband and I loved the quiet and solitude. It snowed and everything was beautiful. How was super responsive when I had a question. 10/10, will stay again.

We stayed with 2 adults and 2 teenagers and it was great. The kids were attending OU Honor Band for the weekend and this is a better option and cheaper than a hotel. I used my hotspot for internet so I could work remotely with no issues. Will stay again!

We spent our Thanksgiving here and it was wonderful. It was so relaxing beginning with the hot tub to the peacefulness of where the cabin was. Seemed thousands of miles from everyone. We had our usual Thanksgiving dinner, grilled steaks, wonderful grill. We recommend staying here and enjoying nature. Also we were able to watch all three Thanksgiving Day football games. Thank you Mark for helping us get to the cabin, my map from my phone quit and we did not have telephone service for a bit, once we did Mark directed us in and very helpful during our stay.

My wife and I recently stayed at the cabin for the weekend. We made a few day trips to the Hocking Hills area and nearby Nelsonville for a scenic train ride.
The cabin was very isolated which was very nice. Very rustic but everything you need and a great location. It was nice to sit on the deck and look out over the pond

This is our 20th year renting cabins. We have to rate this one as one of our favorite. Beautiful setup with nice deck and hot tub overlooking a beautiful pond and lots of trees. We’ll probably have a return visit to this location.

This cabin is exactly what we had hoped for and exactly as advertised. SO peaceful and quiet, with incredible light and a deck that really became the hallmark of our trip. It’s huge! And overlooks a gorgeous wooded area and pond. We saw many deer during our time staying here (be careful driving!) and felt that they were allowing us a few days in their world. The kitchen had everything we needed (even a corkscrew!) and the A/C held up well in stunning humidity of our first 2 days. All 3
Of us slept well and found the beds comfortable. We absolutely will come back!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights August 6 thru 10th 2023, we LOVED it. Just what we needed. Cottage was clean, quiet, perfect deck with hot tub and grill overlooking pond. Used the hot tub every night while stargazing and listening to the frogs. . Enoyed walking down to the pond to fish, caught multiple fish each time. We saw a deer at the pond the day we arrived. Enjoyed a trip to Dow Lake to rent a Pontoon and cruised the lake. Sad to leave on our last day. Definitely want to return to our perfect retreat.

My sisters and friends are so grateful to find not only an affordable place for a girls weekend but a calming atmosphere, beautiful cabin and wonderful host and neighbors.
Since booking the cabin, Mark has been communitive in messaging to help answer any questions and guidance for the trip.
I did travel from Chicago, while my family and friends are based in Ohio, but the 7 hour drive was worth it! Mark also allowed me to check in a little earlier since I traveled the furthest. He also was very detailed in everything regarding your stay.
The neighborhood high school was very friendly when dropping off local firewood.
We got to take a day trip to Lake Dow/Strouds Run Park and I highly recommend this! We rented a pontoon, and it was very fun!

I do suggest to prepare better in advance, unlike myself with screenshotting the information for check in codes from Mark as you will have limited to zero cell service once you are in the area, and prepare your trip with a full tank and start GPS when you have service. This is just a helpful tip from one stay to the next. Being from Chicago it was a wonderful change of pace :) wish we stayed longer, but we will hopefully be back!!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The cabin is comfortable and we loved the back deck that looks out onto the pond. My dog had a blast running around and sniffing everything! And the walk around the pond is nice. We would definitely stay there again!

Loved every minute of it. Got to meet the owner. Found he has a love of hunting as we do. Saw a mama turkey and her 2 babies, a fawn and caught the largest bass we have ever seen. I could go on how ✌ ful this place is. I highly recommend this cabin

Very clean, very nice cabin with a great view of the pond. We enjoyed fishing for bass and bluegills and crappies. Spent 5 nights at Open Range and we would return in a heartbeat! Mark is a great host and is very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We went to the Triple Nickel Diner and the food was great and the atmosphere is really neat and different. Make your reservations for this cabin...you won't be sorry!

Really enjoyed our stay at Open Season. The place was clean, inviting, and matched the description from the VRBO listing to a T. Mark was very thorough, prompt, and courteous in his communication. You can tell he cares about his cabin and also cares about people enjoying it as much as he does. We really enjoyed how peaceful and distant from any towns or cities the place was, the only noise you hear out there is wildlife down by the pond and there is minimal light polution which makes for sitting in the hot tub under a glorious starry sky. An unexpected bonus for us was a little restaurant just 10min away in Amesville. We will very happily return to Mark's cabin in the future.

I don’t think we could have asked for a better stay. This charming farmhouse cabin was clean, comfortable and saddled with creature comforts you won’t get in a hotel. The fire pit gave us a distraction from the fatigue of a day’s worth of local hiking. The hot tub eased our exhausted muscles. It also gave us a place to look straight up into the clear country sky and spy the shooting stars while listening to the cows, frogs and insects sang in unison in the distance. The kitchen was fully equipped to handle as much or as little food prep and cooking as we wanted. The family room had a sizable TV that was already preloaded with all the streaming services…Netflix, Hulu, Paramount, Peacock…there was no loss for entertainment if we needed it.
All in all, we were in need of nothing, the cabin had everything we wanted and needed for a comfortable, romantic getaway. We left completely recharged. We will 100% be back next time we are in Athens County.

The property was nice - the Cabin was cozy and warm and the hot tub was a great perk! We were asked to wash all dishes and put them away but no dish towels to dry dishes were provided. We were given (for two guests) two bath towels, two washcloths, one hand towel. No extra towels for the hot tub. Had to dig around under the bathroom sink for a tiny bar of soap. Good supplies in kitchen. Instructions for our stay were clear and reasonable. We would stay again, just come more prepared for amenities that we assumed would be there.

We left 2 nights early because we were creeped out by the experience. Someone drove up the driveway after dark while we had a bonfire. They turned off their lights and we didn’t hear them drive away. My friends dogs freaked out and we went inside shortly after that. About 30-45 minutes later we heard a man talking right outside the cabin. Of course the dogs freaked out again and focused barking by the back door. I thought someone was about to break in. My friend called the police. Then I called the property owner to let him know and to check if he was maybe on the property. He came over immediately. We asked him to come into the cabin while we packed up to leave. When we were loading the SUV the police arrived. After talking to the property owner we learned that it was probably him that we heard during the bonfire earlier. He let us know he lives across the street and had looked over to check on the fire while riding his ATV. He also came by earlier that day in his truck to get something from his garage while I was sitting outside alone. I didn’t think anything of it then, but after the incident during the bonfire (when it was dark) and then hearing a man’s voice outside at night I’m creeped out. The owner should have notified us beforehand that he was stopping by the first time even though it was during the day. He shouldn’t have checked on the fire when it was dark without talking to us or again—letting us know ahead of time. The property itself was excellent-as described. I appreciate the owner coming over immediately when I called telling him about the man talking outside the cabin. I appreciate him making sure we were OK until the police arrived, but at the same time I don’t feel safe going back.
