Cook up a big meal in the fully-equipped kitchen, or grill on the deck for dining al fresco. Relax after a day of fun on the covered patio or the spacious deck, and really elevate your vacation by soaking in the private hot tub. You will love this home with a cozy fireplace, and a gorgeous sitting room with stone walls. There are so many area attractions you will never run out of fun things to do. From anywhere to half a mile to four miles drive you can visit any of the local wineries and breweries, go hiking, sledding, skiing, and tubing, horseback riding, or explore the gem mines, museums, and don't forget all the great restaurants and local shops. Only complaint was smelly pile of blankets in one of the bedroom, closets and old hairbrush behind one of the beds.

It was an absolute pleasure to stay at the Potatoe House. Went to see snow and relax and it did not disappoint. The house was perfectly set up for check-in, had everything you need for a stay. But the views were worth more than anything I can say. Thank you again.

It's a unique house with a great view in a fantastic location and minutes from everything in Banner Elk. Upon arrival the property manager called to make sure everything was ok. The next day I contacted them because the icemaker was not working and several lights were out including the main entrance. The parking area was pitch-black and not the best for a secluded location. The motion light turns off within seconds so it’s completely useless. The management responded promptly but no one came to repair before we left. In that time, we found over a dozen bulbs burned out and minor issues including a loose drawer pull & towel rack that both fell off and the bathroom hot water faucet barely moves. A section of the deck railing was broken out, the grill is totally beat and has no standby tank. It ran out while using so very irritating as we planned our meals around it. The hot tub was nice and clean, but the lid is tattered and needs replacement – like last year. There were hoses and tools lying about and just a variety of things out of place and beyond the scope of the cleaning crew. Most issues on their own were not enough for most guests to comment about so management was likely unaware. That said, all of this did not happen overnight. A thorough onsite inspection is long overdue. Honestly, if I knew these issues were resolved we would stay there again because it really was a nice trip. This is a great property but without some closer oversight it will soon lose its 5/5 rating.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Potato House!! Our favorite thing was the spectacular view from the beautiful upstairs front deck! We sat out there every morning with our coffee and every evening with our wine! We even got to see deer eating from the apple tree in the yard across the road by the pond! The house was very clean and quiet and so peaceful. Both beds were wonderful and comfy cozy, and we’re picky when it comes to beds! We loved the gas fireplace downstairs, but used the outside wood fire pit more and made a fire 3 nights! The limbs above it need to be trimmed, they’re fairly close and could easily catch fire if you’re not careful and paying attention! The only disappointment for us was that the hot tub did not work and when I texted letting Vacasa know, they told me to send a picture then told me to find the breaker. First of all, there was power, because the lights on it were blinking and the jets turned on, but the water would not get warm, it stayed freezing cold, and we waiting for close to an hour when the instruction book said it takes 20 minutes for the water to heat up. Someone should have come to fix it for us, but they didn’t even offer. The only other issue we had was that a lot of light bulbs in the front bathroom were out and it was very dark in there. Also, one of the front porch lights was out and the outside flood light timer lasts about 1.5 seconds before you have to wave your arms around again to get it to come back on! Overall we loved The Potato House and will be coming back to stay again!

The Potato house is a charming but modern cabin with beautiful wood decor and decorative lighting The views are beautiful. The property manager was helpful and prompt with small issue of batteries for remote. The neighborhood is very quiet. It was a very restful stay.

The house was clean and well maintained. What we loved most was the location. The view was amazing without having to drive all the way up the mountain. We will definitely be back.

Renting was not complicated at all, nor was checking in. This property was great for us since we are an older couple with a small cattle farm. The pasture land reminded us of home and we throughly loved walking the trails across the road and behind the house.

Wanted to be in the mountains with a jacuzzi! Was wonderful! Great amenities and reasonably clean. Rugs need cleaning, otherwise just throw a towel down. Some of the kitchenware can be replaced and some spring dusting is in need. We had a really great visit!

Stayed at this cabin in Feb of 2022 and we had a blast. This year was not the same experience. It seems the property has had a change in management since we last stayed and the quality has taken a nose dive. Shower curtains had black mildew stains (I’m assuming they hadn’t been changed since last year). Hot tub was not in working order and the display screen was broken, which was the entire reason we chose this cabin. Downstairs fireplace no longer works, and the downstairs patio light bulb was burnt out and had not been replaced, which is a problem because it gets very dark at night. Seems that the property is being managed by a company that is located elsewhere and does not actually check the condition of the cabin before they rent it out. We used to love this place which is why we came back for a second year, but we will be staying elsewhere next year for our annual trip.

The Potato house was just how it was described. We enjoyed our time spent there. We were able to explore the property and saw the wild life. Every morning, we would have our coffee on the deck and watch 5 to 6 deer in the field across from the house grazing. We walked the hill behind the house and ran into a flock of wild turkeys. Very relaxing and fun. Thanks for the memories.

The house is very well-maintained and equipped. Two equal king bedrooms which is nice for two couples. Very close to dining and shopping.

My husband and I booked the potato house for our honeymoon and it was exactly what was described online! It was so peaceful but close enough to do things without being in the middle of downtown. The communication was excellent with marjy and John! We look forward to renting it again!

Besides some hiccups at the beginning of the trip, the stay was overall what was expected. Beds were very comfy! The views of the mountains from the property are breathtaking, made for some great photo opportunities. I would recommend updating the different pieces of the house as it did feel old. Especially the hot tub. It felt more like a jacuzzi bath than a hot tub.

Property was clean and convenient. Owner/Property Manager was responsive. There are things that could benefit from updating. The internet connection was spotty. One of the TVs was not working. The fireplace did not work. The walking path was overgrown. Perhaps we stayed at a time between maintenance efforts

A really wonderful place to stay for our revisit to some old tramping grounds. The house was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The veiw was gorgeous. We had excellent weather each day, and very clear night. Waking up to a beautiful view of Hawks Bill and Grandfather Mountain, and being able to clearly see the milky way at night from the deck. The hot tub was great and very relaxing. The property itself is well maintained and groomed, and was fun to explore.

We had a great stay at the Potato House. At 4,200+ feet altitude, it was very pleasant weather! We spent a lot of time on the large deck, also a good place for star-gazing on clear nights. Many things to enjoy in the area. Will visit again.

We enjoyed a long weekend break and the hot tub and jacuzzi tubs really helped our relaxation. We had a great day on Grandfather Mountain as well as some hiking and scenery on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lots of deer, chipmunk, woodchuck, and bunny sightings right off the deck!

The cabin is nicely tucked away outside of Banner Elk, but still close enough to most everything you need! We love the hot tub after hiking. The deck is also very enjoyable! This is our second time staying here and we really enjoyed it! Thanks John!

Pictures for sure need redone. They do not do the house justice. I almost did not book because the pictures make it look bad. But it was wonderful inside. Property was great. We were super close to everything. If I had any suggestions bring your own coffee. I love coffee in the morning on the deck. They have the maker but no coffee. That is one thing I thought would be there but was not.

The potato house is in a wonderful secluded area. Close to nearby attractions. The house was very clean and nicely stocked. I had a wonderful time and look forward to going back soon!

This property is so much better in person than the pictures make it look. We had a wonderful stay with our family. It is right in the middle of so many things to do. I would recommend to others. It was an amazing few days.

The house is a perfect distance to everything; not far, but far enough to have privacy and ability to get out and about in the woods. We had everything that we needed and the best were very comfortable!

I started to put one star for accuracy of online listing because this property was much more than the description and pictures! The view, quality of construction, upkeep, amenities, nearby opportunities for adventure, and thoughtfulness of the owners and managers of this property are way beyond what I expected. We had a wonderful, relaxing time and visit with our grandson. We’ll be back!

The house was perfect down to the details. It was clean, organized, and helpful hints were provided for the house and the surrounding area. The view was beautiful. The area was quiet and private. I can't think of a single thing to improve!

The house was clean and very well stocked. The views from the deck were spectacular. This house was absolutely perfect for a little getaway for my wife and myself. The communication with the property manager was excellent and check in check out was very easy. We are looking forward to our next trip to the Potato House!

This house was so perfect for our three-night trip to Banner Elk. You’re close to a winery and within east driving distance to two different ski resorts. Even if you decide to stay in, the views here are incredible and there are some lovely areas to walk around. The hot tub after a cold walk is perfect!
