The hotel needs a lot of upgrades, it looks and feels old, you are not getting what u r paying for, a bit over priced.

We had a relaxing stay at Peaks of Otter. We walked the lake, took the shuttle almost to the top of Sharp Top Mountain and then hiked the rest of the way up, sat by the lake in the evenings by the fire pit, read on our balcony which over looked the lake, and ate in the dining room for most meals. The staff were very attentive and accommodating, answered all our questions and were always willing to help. Room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

For more than $200 per night, I'd expect more towels in addition to two bath towels and one small hand towel. There were no toilette items, lotions etc.
The view from balcony was excellent!

Beautiful, just beautiful! I’ll be back!

Never stay on first floor of lodge unless you like noise.

Beautiful visit in October.

The property is an absolutely beautiful setting. The rooms have no soundproofing and are very loud with activity going on around them. Not enough parking to accommodate the hotel and the restaurant. Tried to eat breakfast in the restaurant and was told they were not taking anyone else yet they were still open. If they know the hotel is full then the restaurant should be staffed appropriately, especially because there is no restaurant within seven or 8 miles. Just disappointing when you pay $260 for a room not to have a $260 experience.

Peaks of Otter lodge is in a lovely location, though the lodge could certainly use an update. Our lower level/open patio room to the lake smelled musty.
And we could hear the loud footsteps from the room above.
Also, it was a foggy evening and morning so couldn’t really totally take in the full view of the ‘Peaks’.
The walk around the lake was nice.
The best part was the bar area with the cozy fireplace. We had our dinner in that area and had a lovely conversation w the bartender Brandon. He made the evening’s experience great!

Returned here after a 2001 visit with children. It is still a great spot to overnight or stay longer as driving Blue Ridge Parkway. Comfortable, clean room. Good bed. Wonderful views of lake and Sharp Top. Great dinner in lodge dining room. Brittany, our server was delightful. We did not do Sharp Top this time but is a must experience if time permits.

It could use an upgrade here and there but it's acceptable. The bed was comfortable!

We had a weekend trip to the lodge, it was a pleasant stay. The chack in process was a breeze, and the best part was that every room had a stunning view of the lake. The location is perfect for leisury walks around the lake or more adventurous hikes to Sharp Top. Dining at the lodge restaurant was a delight - delicious food accompanied by breathtaking lake views. Highly recommended!

Overall we enjoyed are stay, but we were annoyed to begin with that we didnt get a call until after 10am on the morning of our checkin saying that they had not had power since a storm came through on Saturday (2 days prior). It was expected to be back on by 4pm that day & thankfully it was because we were already on the road & felt like are hands were tied. I also would have liked to know that cell service there is very spotty, as we always let our families know when we arrive somewhere safely. Other than these things we enjoyed our stay. Dinner & breakfast were both great & the service we got from everyone on staff was wonderful. If you want to take a break from the hustle & bustle of every day life & enjoy the great outdoors this is your place.

The view at this property is absolutely amazing. There is no pool but we were able to go hiking fishing right outside of our room. Fire pit with chairs around. It was awesome. Dining in the lodge was great! Rooms were nice but beds were a bit hard. I also wish we had a small refrigerator in each room since it takes at least 20 minutes to get down the mountain. If you're going to go to dinner but you can't bring back leftovers because there's nowhere to put it. It was an amazing weekend with my husband and two boys ages 7 and 10. 😊

It’s clean but rather dated. It’s been remodeled. But I find it rather pricey for what your getting!

Staff at front desk and restaurant acted as though they wished no one was there. At check in, evidently, their credit card system can't distinguish between Visa and Discover. He told me to insert my card and I did, seconds later it beeped and I removed my card. The desk clerk asked me if I used a Visa card, and I said no, Discover. He huffed and said hold on. I told him I have a Visa if that's easier. He said NO, just stick in the Discover now, with an extremely hateful tone. He then handed me my key cards without a word, looked past me and said next.
Later went to the restaurant for dinner and learned that their computer system crashed and they couldn't open until it was back up. IT had been called and we could wait. After 30 minutes of waiting with about 30 other people, I went back to the hostess stand and asked for a menu so that we would be ready once they opened. The manager looked at me sternly and said no, we are not going to open tonight and I should look elsewhere for dinner. Closest alternative is 15 miles through curvey mountain roads. She didn't even tell anyone else waiting, so I went around telling everyone else there. One of the main reasons we chose the Lodge, was the convenience of having dinner right on the Parkway and watching the sunset over the lake while dining. Didn't get to experience any of it and the staff didn't care at all. We were expecting a magical experience and were deeply disappointed and insulted as well.

The grounds and surrounding area were beautiful. The hotel is old and it screams refurbish me! The room reminded me of my Army barracks with the cinder block walls and the windows. The bathroom was very small and had only one towel rack. The vanity was very small and again. Needs an over haul. I’m not a snob but this place is old. Our experience was very good except for the room. It had no microwave or refrigerator. Beds were comfortable and clean linens. We had our 2 Goldendoodles with us so the ground floor room was extremely helpful.
Once you get out of your room the pond/lake was very beautiful with a walking trail all the way around it.
The restaurant was good with a variety of foods and the wait staff were amazing. They were so friendly and respectful. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. The view from the dining room is beautiful as every table has a great view. The breakfast buffet was great and it had real scrambled eggs with veggies in it. Lots of fresh fruit and yogurts.
The convenience to the Blue Ridge parkway was right down the road. Beautiful scenery and well groomed roads.

Great location for escape into nature. Accommodations were very clean and kept up. However, the lodge was built in 1964 and has small bathrooms and the HVAC needs to be updated. Otherwise, it is a great place to stay. Plenty of hiking trials nearby and lots of outdoor activities. Also, its a short drive to Bedford which is a lovely little town itself.

The room was WONDERFUL and we especially enjoyed the deck to watch the sunset over Sharp Top. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was refreshing. The waitresses/ hostess in the dining room were terrific as well! Our only complaint is meant for the evening manager who was not friendly, welcoming, or helpful. Our shower soap was empty and when we asked for soap, he was indifferent, stated that there "was nothing he could do for us" and sent us on our way. The morning manager was VERY friendly even though we barely interacted at 7am!! Too bad... the rest of the experience was wonderful.

Remote and quiet. Beds are important to us, these beds are very nice. Rooms are clean, well attended and cared for. The grounds are well-maintained and beautiful. Shuttle service to local attractions is a nice touch. Local towns have good food options.

A beautiful area to stay with accessible walks straight from your cabin that overlooked the lake. We saw bats flying at dawn , deer, rabbits and even saw the otter. Breakfast was excellent as also was the evening meal. Room was very comfortable.

Views are incredible. Right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Very nice dining room with a great waitstaff. Our room was very nice but could use a little touching up in spots. We had a very quiet, restful three night stay.

The property was lovely - a very nice, quiet, natural setting. Our room was spacious and very clean. Walking the 1m circle path around the lake provided good variety to the many more adventurous higher altitude walking trails. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was fabulous, dinner and lunch offered nice variety, and we loved that the property had a bar with a very capable bartender! We can’t wait to come back!

Grounds kept up very well.
Nice view of the lake from the room.
Costs for the room was good
1 drawback was that there isn't a refrigerator in the room, just a small one. for drinks would have been nice.
The server in the restaurant was awesome. Very nice and friendly .
Sorry but I forgot his name.

We have never stayed at the lodge before, but we decided to spend the night for our 33rd anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful it was, and we definitely want to go back yearly! We loved having a balcony to look out over the lake and enjoyed eating our meals by the window with the same view. We took the bus up to Sharp Top, and we even saw a baby bear walking around the lake! Such a beautiful place to enjoy nature! Everyone was friendly and helpful and made us feel welcomed. I definitely recommend this beautiful mountain get-a-way!

Beautiful location. Surrounded by mountains with a gorgeous lake view.
Lodge rooms were a bit "tired" but very clean. They have vaulted ceilings which give an open, airy feel. I found the bed to be a bit uncomfortable, but that's personal preference.
Dining room staff were friendly and efficient, especially Nicole.

Some maintenance issues , like end ice machine not working so long walk if in far rooms

Staff is very kind and helpful. Property grounds are kept very well. The room was very musty and damp smelling but that’s the location and age and not the fault of the staff, the room was very clean. There are no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms but there is a coffee maker. They do allow for pets but charge $60 a night which I think is quite a bit.

The property was in a very quiet setting. The staff were helpful and courteous. The rooms were everything you would expect from this type of resort; and the property was well managed and clean. Our breakfast was amazing, and sitting by the window brought a peace to the table. Will definitely visit here again.

People stay here (imo) for the views of the mountains, the lake, the trails, the close food, and the spacious rooms. The beds and bathrooms have been updated. Especially if you stay when rates are lower and schools have started back, it is well worth the cost. I had breezy days of peace, exercise, and quiet contemplation. I felt like I was in paradise! I especially loved sitting on the patio, seeing the views, reading, walking, and no one/nothing bothered me. Quiet, beautiful, peaceful.

lovely place to stay, but like most places in national parks they are getting a little tired in places. They need more investment in maintenance and up keep, But don't let that put you off, really is a great place to stay
