14 Acres, Top of the Mountain, Fire Pit, Secluded but not Isolated!
About this cottage rental
Location....Location....Location.... 'Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you... while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.' ~ John Muir 'The Crest' features a scenic gentle drive to a spacious parking area that is level with the cottage, located on top of the mountain at an elevation of 3200 feet. The views are breathtaking! From your car, you are only a few steps from the covered porch. You will enter a spacious living area and are immediately surrounded by large windows with spectacular views of nature and the surrounding mountains. Unpack, light the gas fireplace and you won't want to leave! Our 'smoke-free' and 'pet friendly' cottage is close to the historic charm of Blowing Rock and the growing college town of Boone. Yet just outside your door lie 14 acres to roam, deer and wild turkeys. On the adjoining National Forest property is Hebron Falls, with a bold stream to follow, or a huge bolder to just sit on and fish. Sound wonderful? ....It is! The front and large back covered porches are great places to enjoy the brisk mornings, warm afternoons, and cool evenings, with a special cup of coffee and an enjoyable book from our reading library. The surrounding sounds of nature may lull you into a restful afternoon nap. 'The Crest' is peaceful and restful, offering a sense of solitude, not isolation. You will experience a major 'change- of-pace' while you enjoy nature, get away from the rush of your work week, and feel energized and revitalized. Sorry, but we can not guarantee that you will feel ready to return home! Keywords: Mountain Cottage, views

Thank you Judy for allowing us to stay at your amazing property. We stayed for a long weekend to celebrate my Mother’s 70th with the whole family (including Grandkids) and had an absolutely wonderful time. Beautiful views, clean, safe, close to Boone and Blowing Rock, and overall exactly as advertised. We hope to make it back again soon!
Thanks again!

The road was curvy and it made you wonder who was around the bend! Great to make it to the top and take our things in. We enjoyed a fire in the fireplace and crawled into our beds. Very comfortable beds and nice towels for our shower. We made a yummy breakfast. We had everything we needed to prepare it. I It was a nice place to enjoy with family. We all had a great time!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It is in the perfect location to everything you could want to do. The views were amazing and watching a sunrise or sunset was such a delight on vacation. The house was well stocked with everything you could need or use.
Our only concerns were the bottom of the stairs from the loft was no handrail or markings for the last 2 steps and they are narrow so it was challenging, we had a few trips or falls during our week. The basement smelled horrible during rain, it got better during the week but was hard to sleep in. This is something we attributed to a basement in the mountains.
Other than these 2 things we enjoyed our stay and would return for a visit in the future. You can't go wrong staying here, the owner was super responsive and nice, the house has amazing views, the location is perfect, and overall peaceful get away.

Very impressive VRBO. Exceeded our expectations in every way. Clean, majestic Mountain Views, wonderful location, and best equipped VRBO we’ve been in.

First, the property host is one of the best hosts that we have ever worked with. She was fantastic and went well above and beyond what we expected to make our trip, which was planned for one event, but unfortunately got changed due to a injury that changed our original plans. We ended up having a wonderful weekend away a very nice and cosy cottage. This was the first time we’ve had a host take such a vested interest in ensuring our stay was a enjoyable as possible given the last minute change that could have ruined the entire weekend getaway. If you are considering this property, this property host will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best experience possible! We have already started planning our next getaway and will definitely stay here again. The property has breathtaking views and the cottage is very well designed to maximize space, but not feel crowded. It was mentioned by a member of our family that the cottage “felt like we were at home”. Make the request, it is everything it is advertised to be!

Loved the house and property. Wished it was not cloudy the whole time but was beautiful anyway with the silhouettes of the trees. Just wished it had been sunny for a morning to see the view...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely mountain home; it afforded us the opportunity to explore the surrounding mountains and towns and then rest comfortably each night. The Crest was tucked away on a curvy mountain road, surrounded by trees and mountain views. Except for exterior video surveillance, the home offered a sense of peaceful seclusion. It was beautiful when we visited, but I suspect would be even more so at the changing of the leaves in October or in the spring. The home was very well maintained with thoughtful attention to details like a swing and rockers on the porch, well stocked kitchen, multiple usb ports, clear labeling of light switches and kitchen cabinets, and a bulletin board of information about the area. It would have comfortably accommodated 7-8 guests, with 1 queen, 1 double, and 4 twin beds.
The owner was a delight to communicate with and provided multiple points of contact should we have had need during our stay.
There are only 2 cautions, both of which are to be expected with a mountain getaway. 1: If you are afraid of heights or not a confident driver, the narrow road winding up the mountain can be daunting (but it was also beautiful); I definitely recommend planning your arrival during daylight. In our case, we also ate breakfast and dinner at home each day, ensuring better visibility for our drives to and from the house. 2: The house is on a septic system that recommended disposal of paper in trash cans to avoid plumbing issues; this took a bit of adjustment, but would be common in any mountain home.
In summary, I highly recommend a stay there and would love to return to The Crest.

This is a beautiful mountain top setting! The chalet is extremely comfortable with just about every detail imaginable. It is spotless with wonderful beds and linens, comfy couches, beautiful views, every cooking implement needed. We so appreciated being able to bring our 2 dogs who had a wonderful time. Thank you so much for letting us stay1!

This is a wonderful place to get away. It seems really far out in the country yet is just outside of Boone. Dog friendly and very clean. I will definitely book this house again. I want to come in spring to see all the luarels in bloom.

The home is beautiful on a gorgeous lot overlooking part of the blue ridge mountains. The house is spacious and allowed for several of us to spread out and enjoy our time there. Communication with owner was excellent.

This cabin is situated at the top of a mountain with beautiful (but partially obstructed) views! The drive up to the cabin is peaceful and serene on a nice wide gravel road that is not scary to drive at all. I will tell you, follow Judy's directions NOT your GPS! Just take my word for it.......The temperature up there is about 15 degrees cooler than down in the towns. This property is one of the nicest landscaped of all the places we have stayed as well! We lacked nothing when it came to cooking and grilling. Even found spices that I thought I was going to have to go buy! :-) Judy was very easy to communicate with, and we're already making plans to go back next year!

The home is located very high up the mountain which allows for amazing views and lots of privacy! The porch wraps around most the home and was our favorite part. The views were wonderful. However, the home itself was extremely musty smelling and very dusty. Also, the bath towels were stained. The home needs a very deep clean and refresh.

We had a storm while staying there during which we lost internet connection. The host called us straight away and talked us through re-setting the wi-fi so my daughter could take a college exam online. Very thankful to our helpful and gracious host!

This comfortable house is located at the top of a mountain with amazing Mountain Views from all vantage points. In addition to the views, we enjoyed the quiet and seclusion. There are many interesting activities within a 15-30 minute drive. The house is well set up and we were very comfortable. We can recommend this mountain house to anyone!

We traveled to The Crest from Grand Rapids, MI. The drive was long and we were a little nervous once we got to the last few miles of road! The winding, gravel road was a little intimidating, but once you get to the top... Wow! The views were perfect! The abundance of outdoor seating opportunities made it the perfect place to stargaze, read a book, or enjoy some coffee.
The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed, more than any other place we've stayed!
We stayed in the queen rooms and the mattress was comfy. The couch and rockers were all cozy too.
Expect to be in the car for 15 minutes or so when you want to go anywhere. This is a great compromise for the views and seclusion.
I would stay here again and recommend it for anyone looking to stay in the Boone area.
Judith was easy to contact before our stay. We did not need to contact her while we were there.

This was our second time staying at Judy’s cabin in Boone and we had a wonderful time! The cabin is super cozy and perfect for a getaway weekend. We love the peacefulness, the seclusion, and the beautiful sunsets over the mountains. Communicating with Judy has been the best experience as well; she’s very prompt, kind, and helpful! We’re looking forward to our next stay….maybe sometime in the fall to enjoy the leaves!

Home is literally atop the mountain with great panoramic views. Very cozy cottage, exquisitely maintained and organized with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Very convenient to all local attractions and the wildlife was great, some beautiful deer around the property. Will definitely be back.

This property is in a wonderful location. We were only a short drive from all the hiking, shopping, and dining spots but felt cozy and secluded in the home. Judy was awesome, as well!

My husband, daughter and I needed an escape from work/school/extended family. I requested the rental and immediately had our stay approved. It is a beautiful home in an amazing location. Everything we needed was there. When we were ready to venture out, the drive was less than 30 minutes. Our dog had a blast too. Next time, we are taking our Eno hammocks!

We have no complaints. We had a nice easy trip. It was so nice watching the leafs change from day to day. The property was well stocked and clean. They only complaint is, it was too short! we loved our stay and made great memories. I have a blind dog, and he and his guide were allowed which made it very special for us to have our fur babies with us. Thank you for everything. ~Casey

Last week we spent three nights at The Crest, which is as wonderful as its online description. The house is charming, nicely furnished and very clean! The back porch has an amazing Mountain View and is perfect for enjoying sunsets. The front porch faces east and is equally ideal for watching the sun peep over the treetops while sipping that first cup of morning coffee. Although “The Crest” is located at the top of a winding gravel road, it’s easily reached especially with the help of clear directions provided by Judith, the owner. In fact, upon our arrival, we were fortunate to meet Judith who is hospitable, friendly, and very helpful! After that special start, our visit was relaxing and enjoyable throughout. Each day, we visited some of the many area attractions but spent afternoons and evenings at the Crest”. Even our small dog enjoyed the ambiance. He was especially fond of the well tended grassy areas that surround the house, which are most likely full of interesting scents!
The kitchen is well equipped so we chose to eat most of our meals tucked in at this beautiful mountain getaway. Our only complaint was that our trip ended all too soon. We highly recommend The Crest to anyone looking for a beautiful mountain retreat that is both secluded and yet convenient to area amenities. Thank you, Judith, for a perfect weekend!
