We didn't have great weather but the house is so comfortable and full of great amenities that we relaxed and enjoyed family time. We explored the little towns of Davis and Thomas on the rainiest day. The views were still amazing! Super comfortable accommodations from beds to the cooking utensils.

First thing Jim is awesome couldn’t ask for a better property owner. Everything you need to feel right at home. Views are amazing as well as the location. We had a great time, look forward to staying here again.

We had a great getaway & loved the location. Jim was very prompt answering any questions we had & was able to help our tv issue right away over the phone. We saw lots of wildlife & really enjoyed looking at all the stars at night while relaxing in the hot tub! We will be returning next year!

My husband, parents, and I stayed together and had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful and decorated with all kinds of interesting items from all over the world. The beds were very comfortable and all the electronics such as TVs, Stereo, kitchen appliances were top of the line. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Hot tub was lovely while watching the stunning sunsets on the front porch. The house is very private with no view of any neighbors which was exactly what we were looking for. Would love to stay again! Only complaint was that the upstairs bedroom only had lamps and no overhead light so it was very dark at night but everything else was fantastic!

The cabin has good bones but is missing some basic features for a premium rental.There are screens missing in one of the bedrooms and the upstairs bathroom, the towels are tattered and none of them match, there were only two hand towels, and there’s no hanging bar in the downstairs bedroom closet. When we arrived there about 5:00 pm there had been no house keeping service. Jim responded quickly and the housekeeping was performed by about 7:00 pm. He did make a financial adjustment but it is very disappointing to drive all day and then need to vacate while cleaning was done. Supplies were a bit disappointing also as there was no bathroom bar soap provided also we had to get dishwashing detergent delivered. Several lights were missing bulbs. From a purely personal perspective, I appreciate the fact that the owner wants to share extensive memorabilia from around the world. However, when renting a place I feel uncomfortable when inundated with so much personal stuff. We had a nice stay and really enjoyed the remarkable sunsets.

My family of 3 plus our daughters friend stayed for a week and already can’t wait to go back! We had the best time and it truly is a perfect getaway. The cabin is gorgeous and clean and the views are phenomenal. We loved the property and will definitely be staying again.

Beautiful location. We enjoyed hiking up to the top of the mountain above the cabin. Amazing view, very peaceful.

We enjoyed our stay at this two-bedroom property very much. The appliances in the kitchen were in perfect order and we used the chairs, table, and grill on the deck a few times for drinks or cookouts. The beds were comfortable and the sound system superb. We moved some of the many knick-knacks to make room for our own stuff and had ample space afterwards. The house even has some Purple Lizard maps to help plan hikes!

Absolutely perfect. Watched the all star game, hiked and hottubbed. Very private. Great access to Dolly Sods. Timberline Lakes were an added bonus.

Everything was setup great, loved the deck and hot tub setup. It worked great for our group for hanging out even when it rained. We never even turned the TV on. Great location in Timberline, only required a short drive up to the top for parking area of dolly sods. Def an area where you want to make sure you have everything you need as there's nothing close-by besides the drive to Davis. Jim was very attentive to messages, would definitely stay here again.

This home is so welcoming & comfortable - both the atmosphere as well at the high quality appointments - beds, linens & kitchen. We loved the absolute quiet and seclusion in the mountain. Fresh mountain air! Fire pit! Hot tub over looking the valley and pine trees! This is a beautiful place that I wouldn't hesitate to come back to or recommend. James was great to communicate with, a top notch host! Thank you for your hospitality!

This house is top notch. The location was beautiful and secluded. We found this house very comfortable, clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this property.

If you’re having second thoughts about booking this place, don’t. Just do it. Amazing location, amazing view, the house is super cozy, packed with neat items and decor from all over the world. I would live here if I could. Jim was so easy to communicate with in case we needed anything but also very hands off to allow us to enjoy our stay. Hot tub was perfect, we enjoyed a night at the fire pit, plenty of firewood available, the deck has tons of great seating, easy to use grill, and the kitchen has everything you would ever need from cooking items to spices. Beds were super comfy, and the entertainment system is stellar (though a little tricky to use with so many remotes!). We loved every minute of it, and even took advantage of the easy and close by access to Dolly Sods at Rocky Ridge trail. Would absolutely stay again!

This property is fantastic! Bed was comfy, fire pit was awesome, and the night sky on Saturday was top notch! After hiking all day, we hit the hot tub, watched two concerts on the great video/ sound system, and enjoyed a great dinner! Almost heaven! MK

My husband and I stayed at Highland Rest for 6 days with our 16yo daughter and each of us felt that it was one of the best vacations we’ve had. The house is immaculately clean, well stocked and very comfortable. Loved seeing all Of the interesting items from all over the world. We were there to hike /climb and the proximity to so many great trails and mountains was ideal. After long, strenuous days we were so glad to have a well equipped kitchen /grill to prepare meals and a luxurious (and incredibly clean) hot tub in which to relax. it was chilly some nights and the fireplace just set the whole vibe. Jim was wonderful and made some excellent recommendations for us. We are from the NYC metro area and one note is that travelers may want to bring Most of the food they want to prepare. The local grocery store was only about 20 Minutes away but I was surprised at the differences in availability, especially meat. The nightly visits from the deer and wild turkeys while we relaxed on the front porch were just so charming. Oh, and the stars in the sky?!!????? Absolutely stunning sunsets and skyscrapers. WONDERFUL place to stay — thank you, Jim!! Can’t wait to come back!!!

Was looking for a getaway a short distance away from my home with some friends. This place was just what we needed. Well stocked and in the perfect location. Definitely recommend!!

Much needed trip off the beaten path to a cabin high on a hilltop with no noise, no people, no stress. Fantastic stay and experience for my son and I to decompress and spend quality time together. Cell service( Verizon) and internet were in and out; but that didn’t damper our spirits. The home theater system is premium, and the owner has tons of movies and music dvds to enjoy. The hot tub and stars on a clear night are amazing. Beds are comfy, kitchen is stocked and fresh snow was the “icing on the cake” We will be back!

Brought a German friend to Canaan and we loved the house. Perfect home base with beautiful scenery. Great home base for lots of winter hiking in the area (we went to black water falls and Seneca rocks on way back). We enjoyed the foozball table in particular :)

This is a gem of a property! Perfect location at the top. Super quiet and peaceful. The house had everything that we needed, and Jim was easy to reach if we needed anything. We will definitely be back!

We had a fantastic time at this home. It is so private, and the views are incredible. It’s well equipped for cooking and comfy for entertainment, we already want to come in the summer to sit on the various porches. Jim was so accommodating and quick to respond. There’s lots of closet spaces so I was able to store totes and suitcases out of the way which was nice. Thanks for another great house Jim! (We stayed in his other one last year and loved that one too).

We really enjoyed our stay in this home. It’s cozy and clean. Jim is a wonderful host. The kitchen is fully stocked with high end cookware. The beds are comfortable. He even provided phone chargers to use. The views from the porch are amazing. The fireplace is efficient and so nice after being out in the cold. It really felt like home while we were there. Will definitely be returning in the future.

The vacation was very eventful. We loved the home it was so cozy. The kids sled down the hills , beautiful views, everything was very nice the fireplace was awesome. The beds were OMG great. The hot tub was perfect with the snow around it. We would totally come back in the spring to see what this season would be like. The snow didn't disappoint. Thank you for a great vacation

We so enjoyed the peace an privacy of this home celebrating thanksgiving together with Gods natural beauty surrounding us. Hiking is abundant, the kitchen boasts quality products, beds are comfortable, jacuzzi is awesome at night under the stars, you won’t be disappointed 💜

I have been visiting Old Timberline for 23 years and this is easily one of the best houses I've ever rented. I was so comfortable and had everything I needed to enjoy my stay. Deer visited several times each day to drink from the pond and chill in the yard. I cannot wait to return!

My 15-year-old son and I stayed for three nights to access hiking in the Dolly Sods. The cabin is clean, cozy, super organized, and filled with fascinating objects from around the world. It sits at the end of a cul-de-sac on the side of a ridge. It was shoulder season between fall and winter but we saw nobody the entire time. You can either hike up the hill and over the ridge to the Dolly Sods or drive a minute to a trailhead. Hop in the hot tub after a long day of hiking with views of the valley. The cabin is incredibly well stocked for cooking, compared to other places I've rented. The whole atmosphere is one of welcoming you to share this amazing space rather than treating you as a client. Despite its isolation, close to the town of Davis, plus a big-screen tv and stereo, all the streaming services for movie night, wireless.

I've been hiking and backpacking in Dolly Sods for many years, so I was very happy to find an exceptionally comfortable and well-appointed cabin that is adjacent to the wilderness. The cabin is great with every detail thoughtfully described and available for use. It took us about 10 minutes to get through the Timberline Mountain security gate, so allow for that one-time process. We will definitely come back.
