Carriage House West at George Baldwin House
About this bed and breakfast
This is truly a step back in time. On the inside this is not a luxury rental, it is more like a cabin, so picky guests might want to scroll past this unit, but the home is incredible, the location is great and the history is unforgettable. The carriage house of famous historic mansion has two side by side separate apartments. This unit is the West unit. Mostly rustic but with a modern bathroom. This is for those who seek an adventure experience unlike any hotel or modern renovated home. Queen built in bed plus 2 built in Twin beds. Dining Table. Small equipped kitchen. Shared fairytale style rambling garden and courtyard. city license #SVR-00682 The carriage house apartment has a cabin vibe. Its living room and dining room area has two built in twin beds that double as sofa/lounge seating. We have a small tv with basic local channels. The kitchen is stocked with utensils. The bedroom has a built in Queen bed and a modern en suite bathroom. The bathroom has a real door but the other rooms are separated by curtains in the doorways. There is AC/Heat (2 mini split systems) and wireless internet access from the main house. The internet signal isn't strong enough for serious work from home but there is a Starbucks and another cafe within 1 block. The gardens can be explored but no other apartments or the main house are accessible if you book this carriage house apartment you will not share the interior space with anyone. There is a small common foyer type entry before you get to your private apartment door. This is one block from the main downtown grocery store Kroger, and 2 blocks from Forsyth Park. This is next door to Brockington Hall event venue (also a famous Savannah mansion) You can walk everywhere or take public transportation. There is a ConnectOnTheDot purple trolley stop one block away on Abercorn. We also have Uber and Taxis of all kinds. Parking is free and easy on the street (either Hall Street or Lincoln Street). Remember that Twin beds are shorter than King or Queens. These are standard Twin length so do not book for tall adults who will be disappointed with standard Twin beds in the common room. You can look up standard American bed sizes. The price is reflective of the rustic unit. Guests who choose this unit should understand there is a good reason this is less expensive than remodeled modernized rentals nearby. Those who are adventurous and not too picky have an opportunity to stay in magnificent historic compound for a low rate. We want everyone to be happy so please consider this when booking. The George Baldwin House was constructed in 1887. Designed by architect William Gibbons Preston. This was the first commission for Preston who later went on to design many of the most famous and impressive Savannah landmarks such as the Cotton Exchange. We were looking for a spot to really feel a part of historic Savannah on a short visit to SCAD with our teenage daughter -- and this was perfect! The space was cozy and comfortable next to a gorgeous historic mansion on an amazingly beautiful street. Everything was lovely and well appointed. The two twin beds worked great for our daughter (and a bonus child if we'd had one). The apartment was equipped with a SmartTV which was handy for watching Netflix at the end of the day. The site was walkable within 20 minutes of most everything --but we drove five minutes to most restaurants and sites we wanted to visit. Parking in front of the house was a breeze - and FREE (which is rare in Savannah). There's an adorable coffee shop steps away, as is Forsyth Park. If our daughter ends up going to SCAD, I could see us enjoying this cozy little spot time and again!

Loved the property. Just as described. Close to everything. Within very short walk to coffee, grocery, and park. Would definitely stay here again. Very clean. Meet all my expectations.

Perfect location. Unique accommodations. We loved our stay!

Short weekend stay with my husband for my birthday. Clean and charming. Walkable distance to most tourist areas. Grocery store around the corner and free parking so once we parked we didn't need to drive anywhere. The gardens were lovely for resting after a day of walking and the history of the mansion is fascinating. We'd stay here again.

We enjoyed the atmosphere of being in historic Savannah and it’s proximity to our granddaughter’s apartment (

The accommodation is quite basic but close to city of Savannah, everything is reachable on foot. For 2 nights fine (but not for a longer stay).

We came for my 24th birthday for a girls trip and had a blast! the property was great and clean, and the beds were comfy.

Private and quiet, it’s an easy walk to the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, the Collins Quarter Restaurant (delicious), Forsyth Park, SCAD’s Chatham Hall, Kroger grocery store, and more.
Yes, the quarters are simple, but there’s free parking, no stairs, and no need to remember keys. It also had everything I needed, even shampoo & conditioner! I recommend the Mercer YMCA to workout if you’re a Y member.

Loved our stay, everything was as described. Two window units kept the entire house cold in July! Great location! Would love to stay here again on a return trip!

Straight forward, clean, accomodations for 1 to 4 people in a great location

Was mostly as described. Rustic & basic. It was neat staying in a historic carriage house. We only stayed 2 nights. The only real complaint would be the mosquitoes. There are gaps where they can get in. We were not there during the day but got eaten up by mosquitoes as we slept. Was pleasantly surprised by the amount of hot water. It took a little while to heat as it comes from the main house but we had plenty for four of us to take back to back showers. The twin beds were a little short for my 5’10” son but not a problem for my shorter self. We did not really use the kitchen. The location was great. Right over from Forsyth Park & around the corner from Kroger. Great bakery about a block away, Mate Factor, very neat place. Loved looking at all the historic homes in the area.

The area was perfect, close to everything. The cost to stay two nights was very economical.
The property was maintained to a minimal standard. Replace the light bulbs on the outside! The garden could be beautiful but needs cleaned up, badly. The refrigerator was all rusted. Although the place was clean inside, take the extra step and clean the cupboards, all the nooks and crannies; spider alert!

The carriage house was lovely for a short stay with adults in the big room in the back and kids in the twin beds in front. We didn’t end up using it, but the kitchen appeared to have all of the necessary amenities. The beds were comfortable and the AC units made the temperature perfect. The water pressure in the shower was great. Some noise from the other rental in the other half of the carriage house, but very manageable given the overall comfort, location, and affordability of the carriage house.

We showed up for our 2 night stay after 5pm, after driving 10 hrs to start our little vacation. Upon arrival the place looked great and the check-in process went smoothly. After going inside and taking a small tour is when we noticed the flies! The back bedroom and bathroom were covered in flies. Needless to say we spent the first hour of our mini holiday killing flies. After an hour we gave up and decided to go enjoy the beautiful city of Savannah instead. During our 2 night stay, my boyfriend and I had to sleep separately in the front livingroom in twin beds due to the bedroom and bathroom being covered in flies. We spent our holiday exploring Savannah and spent as little time in the carriage house as possible. I contacted the host with the conditions of the room along with photos of all the flies. I have not heard back from them and it's been over a week! Overall the property is great, its just sad we couldn't enjoy it because of the flies!

We really enjoyed our visit. Great location and a cute little apartment. The apartment reminder us of an apartment we lived in another historical home.

My friend and I were in town for the American Legion Auxiliary National President's visit. The accommodations were clean and neat. Big enough for two people but would have been cramped if there had been three of us. Parking was a challenge. Street parking only. Home owners were very nice and friendly. There is an ally running behind the property which can be used for unloading and loading your vehicle but not for parking long term. The house is a short walk to Forsyth park and there is a Kroger right around the corner.

This place was so quaint and perfect. The best location I could have picked and so clean. The host is very honest about the amenities and very quick to respond. Parking was great and there was not a thing I would change!! Would definitely stay here again.

Clean cozy property , great location , so nice to be just beside the "great house ". Authentic Savannah neighborhood - terrific 4 day visit -- highest recommendations !

This listing is exactly as described, it is no frills and the air conditioning is limited. I would not consider it during the warmer months. That being said, the location is perfect and allowed us close access to everything in downtown Savannah. The neighborhood is great and very quiet. Parking can be challenging as street sweeping happens on differing nights and we had to move the car frequently. We did enjoy being close to Kroger and loved the Mate Factor Coffee shop just a block away.

Perfect location and talk about a historic downtown gem!!! Can't wait to come back and stay here again!!!

This little cottage was perfect for our weekend get away. It was just as described, you’re staying in the carriage house behind the main large house. No crazy bells and whistles, but it was clean, beds were comfortable, and had a full size fridge and basic kitchen supplies. Also included was a hair blow dryer, which wasn’t mentioned in the listing but happily surprised to find one.
There is a cute garden area just outside the carriage house and back door to the main house. We didn’t get to use it much because it rained all weekend but would have if it was nicer weather.
Just note about the bed situation. If you’re close friends or a family staying here you’ll be fine. There are two twin beds back to back in the living/dining area, and the full size bed is closed off by a curtain in the main “bedroom”. You have to walk through the main bedroom area to get to the bathroom. For our group, my spouse and I stayed in the full bed and our friend slept on one of the twin beds in the living area and it was fine.
Also, we had no issues with the water getting warm for a shower. If anything, it actually got too hot at times and had to turn it down, and we were there on a chilly, rainy weekend in February.
The location is great, highly recommend walking to the Mate Factor (coffee/pastry shop) right around the corner. We got breakfast there 2 out of the 3 mornings on our trip. Also walkable distance to downtown if you don’t mind a half hour walk. We did that one night, but due to the rain the rest of the weekend we drove downtown and found parking pretty easily, just make sure to check payment at the meters. Parking is free (street parking only) around the carriage house, which was nice.

It was a cute and clean property! Love the history and the property was correctly advertised.
Perfect getaway for my husband and I.

Love the location. The house had everything you could need while staying there including firewood and blankets in the living room. Lots of storage and closet space. Loved staying here.

We walked up the the cottage and it’s the door on the right. Easy access so so so clean!! Beds were comfortable bathroom clean no hair in shower or floor which is a welcome change from other places we h e stayed. The cottage isn’t well lit outside at night so just bring a cell phone light. Kroegers is literally behind the cottage so you can get what you need. It was so quiet during day and night. Go out the cottage on the street take left and 2 blocks down your at Forsyth park!!!! Uber will pick you up right outside the gate just be standing there. So easy to get to everywhere. Trolly stops near the cottage also. We will stay again when we are back in Savannah!!!!! Oh ps no bugs sliders or anything In the cottage!!!!! Yay!!! A++++

This is such a cute place to stay. The bed is comfy, the space is cool and the neighborhood is quiet and safe. We found great food and coffee within a 15 minute walk and we were able to park right out front without any issues.
This is not a good option for multiple people who are not very familiar. There are no doors other than on the bathroom and that has only a slatted French door leading directly off the bedroom. So not much privacy. For me and my boyfriend this was no problem but I wouldn't want to share the space with a co-worker!

Savannah is an easily navigable city, so any location in town is convenient. My issue is with the actual house. The refrigerator is rusty; the entire kitchen is a disaster. The Wi-Fi works as long as you’re within 5 feet of it. The hot water “comes from the main house and may take up to 10 minutes to get hot.” The furniture is rustic and extremely uncomfortable. And the fees and rental price is at least twice what’s reasonable for such a slum. We spent as little time there as possible. Book a hotel room—it’d be cheaper and more comfortable.

Upon entering the home, we knew it was just what we had expected. Cute, well decorated. Comfortable.

What a wonderful property for history lovers. Beautiful neighborhood. Cannot wait to stay again.

Loved our stay. Enjoyed Forsyth Park within walking distance. Also enjoyed Mate Factor Bakery in the mornings a block away. We also used Kroger a block away for a cooked meal in our cottage. Historic Downtown and Riverfront were within walking distance. We also used the free Dot Transportation Trolleys for transportation downtown. We met wonderful friendly people and enjoyed our stay immensely!

It was ok stay, a lot of little gnats all over bathroom floor, walls and ceilings. TV did not work. Needs some updating in kitchen. 2 nights was enough, not longer.

The owners description was spot on. The location was perfect for us, as were the accommodations. Beds were comfortable, cottage was clean and quiet.

We had a great stay at this adorable little property. It was the perfect size for me and my husband. Very close to a Kroger, which was very convenient. We walked everywhere. Our stay was comfortable and quiet.

This little renovated “bungalow” was perfect for a short girls trip. The main house and surrounding homes are beautiful. Just around the corner from a grocery store and minutes away from Forsyth Park, we couldn’t have had a better location. The place was clean and QUIET. Easy to find and private. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Perfect, we were happy with rental and neighborhood, really enjoyed courtyard, parking was easy, would stay again

Convenient location on a lovely block of historic houses. The unit is rustic and cozy, situated in a typical Savannah patio. Would stay again.

Overall nice place for overnight and quick stays. Kitchen facilities could be a little nicer and there is no dishwasher.....note said to wash all dishes and no sponges, dishcloths, etc available to do so. The room was also very hot and humid when we arrived and the AC units once we turned them on barely got it comfortable during the evening......let alone the day. Better suited for late fall and winter.
