Vintage mountain cottage with modern amenities, comfort and charm
About this cottage rental
The Hemlock Cottage was built in the 1920s as a workshop for the main residence on the property, and converted into a cozy, comfortable living space in 2001. The open-plan living space oozes vintage charm with its color scheme, decorative antiques and furnishings including a 1950s chrome-and-enamel dining table--but modern travelers (and their pets) will find all the amenities they need for their getaway, including a king-sized bed with professionally-laundered cotton linens, well-equipped kitchenette, three-piece bathroom with endless hot water, romantic gas log fireplace, air conditioning, flat-screen TV with cable, Roku & DVD player, Wi-Fi and a private outdoor hot tub. You will find complete peace and relaxation on our adults-only property, which is just a stone's throw away from all the attractions of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and the Hickory Nut Gorge. **Please note that while this cottage is a new listing on VRBO, we are professional innkeepers with other properties that have been successfully accommodating VRBO travelers for the past five years. If you'd like to read reviews or compare this cottage to other options, please look at #1118540 (Hickory Cabin), #1118657 (Magnolia Cabin) or #1665289 (Tall Oaks Cabin).** ************************************************************************** Experience the natural wonders of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge while enjoying the creature comforts and charming atmosphere of our cozy cottage. Sumptuous king-size bed Private patio with hot tub for two Kitchenette stocked with supplies for continental breakfast** Please note that the kitchenette does *not* include a stove, oven, burners, or griddle; provided appliances include a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster and 4-cup drip coffee maker. Gas log fireplace Air conditioning and ceiling fan Wi-Fi Flat-screen TV with cable, Roku and DVD player Outdoor pavilion with gas grill All linens provided (except beach/swimming towels) Pet friendly for up to two dogs or cats ($50 fee/pet/stay) Located just around the corner from the Lake Lure Beach and Marina and five minutes' drive from Chimney Rock State Park, the Hemlock Cottage is a mountain getaway gem that has provided a restful escape for travelers for 20 years. The cottage is conveniently located, yet private. It offers a partial mountain view from the front door (mostly obscured in summer when trees are leafed out) and is nestled into lush green native trees and plants that will make you feel like you're hidden away in the woods. Come enjoy your own private patio with a sparkling-clean hot tub for two, shaded by beautiful hemlock trees and open to the beautiful mountain sky. Feel at home enjoying a comfortable king size bed, fireplace, Wi-Fi, Netflix and so much more. The Hemlock Cottage is carefully decorated with antiques, collectibles and regionally hand-crafted furniture. Feel free to sleep in, as your kitchen is stocked with breakfast goodies to start the day at your own pace (homemade bread & muffins, fresh fruit, hot cereal, butter, jam, creamers, sweeteners, coffee, tea & cocoa). The property is nestled under a beautiful tree canopy and provides ample seating areas to appreciate the natural surroundings and--if you're lucky--wildlife including our adorable flying squirrels, whitetail deer, hummingbirds and chameleons. The picnic pavilion, shared by all four units, provides guests with a gas grill and outdoor dining area. We also have a sweet little propane firepit to enhance your outdoor relaxation (new in fall 2020). The Hemlock Cottage is an ideal choice for honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays, romantic escapes and relaxation retreats. Our guests return again and again for the peaceful mountain cottage ambiance and thoughtful amenities that provide a respite from whatever stresses may beset your everyday life. Whether you stay a weekend or a week, you will find yourselves charmed by the spirit of this magnificent place. If you can tear yourselves away from the comforts of your cottage, you will discover a wide variety of pleasures and adventures in any season: from unique local restaurants to gift and antique shops, hiking trails and tours, boat and kayak rentals, seasonal produce and craft stands, winery tastings, zip-line tours, horseback riding and whitewater adventures. We are located in the center of it all: 5 minutes to Chimney Rock Village and State Park 25 minutes to Tryon International Equestrian Center 30 minutes to historic Hendersonville 45 minutes to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate 1 hour to Greenville-Spartanburg 1.5 hours to Charlotte Please note that we are an adults-only property and we do not make exceptions to this policy for children of any age. **IMPORTANT**: In periods of lower demand and occupancy, we may offer single-night stays. The rates reflected in our calendar assume a minimum two-night stay; however, because the effort and costs involved in a one-night rental are virtually the same as a multi-night stay, we may charge an additional supplement for one-night bookings (between $15-30). If you request a single night's stay, we will send you a new quote with the fee added which you can choose to accept or decline. **While this cottage is a new listing on VRBO, we are professional hosts with other properties that have been successfully accommodating VRBO travelers for the past five years. If you'd like to read reviews or compare this cottage to other options, please look at #1118540 (Hickory Cabin), #1118657 (Magnolia Cabin) or #1665289 (Tall Oaks Cabin).** ==A special note regarding cancellations in pandemic times== We have seen a distinct increase in last-minute cancellations since 2020. While we understand that life in general feels more uncertain these days and that many are struggling, we ask guests to recognize that the same applies to us as small business owners with a sole source of income. If you would like to book with us but a last-minute cancellation (and loss of any monies paid to us) would be unsustainable for you, we recommend you purchase trip insurance with cancel-for-any-reason coverage. We loved our stay! Very pet friendly. We had great communication with the owner when needed. Contactless check-in and out. Each cabin is extremely private. The hot tub was my husband’s favorite thing. 😉

The cottage was cute, clean & had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. The owner was available for our needs. Homemade bread/muffins/fruits/oatmeals/coffees/teas & hot chocolate was there. They even had a First Aid Kit. Well lit with motion detector lights. We Looooved this cottage and it was the headboard that made us pick this one. The gas fire place was Awesome!!! Happy Customers. The hot tub was the reason for choosing this place over others, and it was very clean and lovely to sit in and have a nice soak (warning: the owner requests that you be nude to use the hot tub, so consider whether you are comfortable with this before booking). The cabin overall was clean, but there were so many knick-knacks on the tables and counters, that we didn't have much space to put our own personal items (some guests may like these knick-knacks and don't take as much stuff as we did, so it might not be a problem). The cabin is also a bit outdated, so it felt overpriced for what you are getting. The owner does have a lot of rules...perhaps they had a bad experience with guests in the past? Communication with property owner was great. We didn't have an unpleasant time, but I don't think I would stay in this cabin again.

This was a lovely spot for a new parents getaway. My husband and I had a baby 3 months ago and just needed some peace and quiet time. This cabin provided that and more. We enjoyed local restaurants in Lake Lure and shops. Great location and close enough to our home in Greenville for a sweet weekend trip. The property was nicely stocked with coffee/tea and some light snacks. We really enjoyed the hot tub for 2. Highly recommend!

My wife and I stayed here with our dog for a long weekend and it was an awesome experience. The house is private and the hot tub was great after hiking all day. It is close enough to Asheville to enjoy a day there but there is also plenty to do in the area such as Chimney Rock State Park with lots of shops outside the entrance to the park. You will have a great time staying here.

The cottage was clean, cute, and the perfect size for two people. Loved the hot tub! Arbor Cabins is conveniently located yet offers privacy and quiet. They provided a kind welcome note, bread, muffins, fruit (for my boyfriend and me) and dog treats (for my dog). Everything was much appreciated! Most important of all, Erika (the property manager) was very easy to communicate with and responsive. We enjoyed our stay. I would stay here again, especially for a longer visit during which I could take full advantage of the outdoor grill and fire pit in the common area.

The property was great. It was a two-person cozy cottage. The owners were great to work with. The location to the lake and activities were definitely within walking distance but you have to remember the walk back is uphill. The cottage had it's own private hot tub. There was a fire pit area and picnic area but it rained all weekend so we didn't get to use that. We went for the annual Lake Lure Dirty Dancing Festival. I would definitely stay here again.

We couldn't believe how quiet it was staying here; so peaceful, yet only a few minutes from town. The cottage was clean, well stocked, and the fruit and homemade goods from the hosts were wonderful. The room and hot tub were very private which we enjoyed. We would sit out in the evening and loved the addition of the floating stars on the trees. We watched for hours. They were accommodating to our little dogs who felt at home and comfortable during our stay. Highly recommend for a getaway to rejuvenate, relax, and unwind.

If you’re looking for a hotel style experience, this is not for you. If you’re looking for a slightly off grid experience, a little romance, great hospitality, and just about every comfort of home, then reserve this cottage.
After a little research I settled on this cottage, and Erika and Sarah did not disappoint. The cottage was quaint and clean. Although it’s surrounded by a few of other cottages, it still felt very private. The location was perfect and convenient to just about everything. The outstanding communication, the hot tub under the stars and homemade muffins were the icing on the cake and guaranteed my return!

I rented through VRBO and expected a distant check in. After initial VRBO acceptance host ignored app and VRBO site and deluged me with rules and details via e-mail. Which did not show up once I was on the road until later. Early instructions did include a warning NOT to show up early but to wait for a text if early check in was available. Never heard. Never received check in instructions via VRBO. Never received any answer to texts sent. When I did arrive after dark I was surprised to see there were no handrails for steps and many steps were too high to safely navigate with any accessability restrictions. I did receive an email saying wait in car in parking lot or bang on their personal gate. It turns out my "cottage in the woods" though private via careful fencing, that was exquisitely decorated and meticulously provisioned, was less than 25 yards from owners home. When owner surprised me in the dark as I had started to climb the stairs in the rain, she startled both me and my dog. I was concerned for her safety because she leaned her face right into my dog's face without ascertaining who she was or me having the chance to assure my large husky service animal that she was not a threat. When I rejected a 15 minute introduction to the property welcome I again disappointed owner. I also rejected directions deemed mandatory to use private hot tub. Hot tub was cleanest ever- but comes with own manual and clothing is verboten. Also separate manuals for Petiquette and the many remotes used to make heat, fireplace, fans, tv and all lights hands-free. I never saw nor heard from owner again, until I messaged to remind them I still needed to pay a pet fee. I did and do recommend the inn for location, cleanliness, and more. If I hadn't been tired and had been in a better mood after having slept a full night I might have enjoyed my stay. As it was, I never felt fully alone. The bed and food were lovely. The grounds are beautiful. I have no doubt the owners are kind and delightful people. Future renters should just be aware of the proximity to others. Also - when wet or foggy both the driveway and walking paths are slick, dark and slippery. Exactly what you would expect on a mountain - just make sure to drive and dress accordingly. Since internet and wifi and bandwidth are extremely limited at Lake Lure - maps, instructions and more should be downloaded and verified ahead of arrival time.

This is exactly what I was looking for. A peaceful few days in the mountains. Hot Tub was amazing!
The hosts are gracious. They left fresh bread, fruit, and homemade apple butter...plus a bottle of wine in the fridge. The cottage is adorable. The front deck is in a garden which, when sipping morning coffee, has a view of the mountains. The hot tub is clean....as is the rest of the cottage. I felt 100% comfortable jumping right in. Felt the same way about snuggling under the covers afterward. For a woman traveling alone, this is a fantastic cottage. I read by the fire, went for walks along the beach and sat by the firepit when not soaking in the hot tub. The other guests were kind, and I felt welcomed.
Thank you for an excellent first visit. I will be back! Anyone who books this place will not be disappointed. My boyfriend and I are already looking into getting one of their cabins. The host was kind enough to show me the interior, and I immediately added it to my list. Though my boyfriend would love the cottage too; we want a full kitchen. However, if they are unavailable there is a grill next to the firepit. No matter which place you choose, you will enjoy the peaceful energy here.

Cottage was cute and clean. Only downside, felt like I was staying in someone’s shed. Cottage literally was in the owners backyard less than 25 feet from their house. Lacked privacy.
Owner was very nice and attentive.

We absolutely loved staying at the Hemlock Cottage for our honeymoon! Erika and Sarah helped us celebrate by providing complementary champagne which was a nice touch! The cottage was very clean and the perfect size for my husband and I. The hot tub was so nice to end each day in to unwind. It’s in a great location to get anywhere in town. I would recommend this cozy cottage to anyone considering a relaxing intimate weekend.

My wife made the initial contact through VRBO seeking a cabin (pet friendly) at Lake Lure. She thought she was getting a cabin with full kitchen.
Instead we were in the Hemlock cottage, a refurbished storage shed that had a mini microwave and mini refrigerator. We brought food to cook, and had to buy ice and keep it in the cooler for four days.
The toilet was not fastened to the floor so it rocked back and forth when you sat on it. The handle on the kitchen sink would come off if you pulled up too hard.
There were three other cabins on the complex. One appeared to be unused the entire 4 days. I don’t understand why with that long of a stay the owner might have suggested placing us in a different cabin.
The bed was comfortable and we were welcomed in person by one of the owners.
Somehow between their online listing and the VRBO listing, many of these details were missed.
