Our daughter and her family live in Gulfport, so we visit often. We know the area, and I knew this house was close to the railroad tracks. However, the pin that shows up in VRBO is NOT where it is actually located. The pin appears about a block from the tracks and a few blocks East. This house literally BACKS UP TO THE TRACKS. With that being said, it does have a high privacy fence all around the backyard. And after a couple of trains go by, you kinda get used to them going through. The fenced in yard was a major plus, as we spent many hours away from the house during the days and our pup needed to run and play when we returned. Location was great for all of our needs.

The historic cottage is an updated but not fully restored version of my grandmothers house. The neighborhood is filled with overgrown greenery and row houses. From the time we turned on the street and pulled up to the house we were ready to go check into a hotel. The contract for the rental was so strict though we would have taken a total loss, so we decided to make it work. The property is okay, just not the nice looking place on the pictures. Think glamour shots when you look at these pictures. Upon arrival, the property doesn’t have the same the feel AT ALL! Upon entering the property we found all of the following; toilet seats loose in back bedroom, door knobs loose, and falling off, the scent of mothballs, all blankets in front bedroom not washed, squeaky, creepy, nearly unstable floors in the back bedroom, patio furniture still from the last hurricane that’s nearly dilapidated, and lastly, the property is poorly insulated. The paint job throughout was substandard with multiple areas of wall defects covered with paint. Lastly, there is no mention in the listing of train track that is literally in the backyard and planes that can be heard flying throughout the early morning and late night as well. BEWARE! The listing states pet friendly. Please read all the fine print and be ready for the bait and switch if anything happens. I booked this property and purchased accidental damage insurance. My dog, disturbed by extremely loud train noises scratched and chewed a small area at the front door frame. Upon our checkout I sent a picture to the manager explaining what happened. The manager contacts me saying I didn’t pay a pet fee that I knew nothing about. The contract states we needed permission to bring a pet not pay a fee! I typed in two places during booking that I was bringing my family pet. All of a sudden there was no record of that. Then the manager informed me that the accidental insurance would not cover damage caused by pets. I paid that fee for no reason. To resolve this issue part of the security deposit was withheld to cover the pet fee and the damage repair. The repairman replaced the entire door frame on our dime. That’s one way to continue to give the property a facelift. We will not return to the property if ever in the area again. The money we paid was incongruous to the experience. A hotel would have been much nicer and more up to out standard of living.

We stayed for 1 week over Thanksgiving. Plenty of pots, pans, skillet etc cute house but it suits REALLY close to the train tracks. It’s not really bad, just a little startling the first time. Short on supplies toilet paper, dish soap, dishwasher soap, laundry soap They put a tiny bottle with soap in it, so bring your own. Really close to the beach and a couple of bars. They look a little scary but they are harmless. Skeeters, 2 blocks away had great take out food. Overall 3 stars
