Private Family House with Ocean\/Mountain Views
About this house rental
Situated in Honomu, this attractive house for $125 per night is a great choice for your next break. Sanitized to Covid-19 regulations. Secluded home offers unparalleled views of the ocean and Mauna Kea. It is a recently built home which increases the level of comfort. It is situated on a farm with an array of livestock. Nearby, you may explore the quaint town of Honomu with its shops and sugar plantation era charm. Also, just down the road is the epic Akaka Falls State Park (one of the most visited attractions in Hawaii). Spread out and relax in all of the space this large home offers. This space is best suited for families or small groups, offering a spacious living area and open floor plan to the kitchen and dining area. Portable crib, and highchair available upon request. The TV is equipped with streaming service (no cable) so you can stream content to entertain the kids each evening. We know you will enjoy watching the ocean or spotting whales (season permitting) from the private lanai (porch) at the front. The kitchen is well equipped for you to prepare any meals. Be sure to stock up on groceries before leaving Hilo or Kona as there are only small road-side restaurants and limited stores on the Hamakua Coast (our neighborhood), that close before 6 pm. This rental home is situated in a duplex (two family home). There will be other people staying in the other house, however these units are very well separated connected only by a carport (no adjoining walls). We will provide you with step-by-step directions to the property to make it easy to check-in so do not worry about late arrivals. The roads to the house are all paved and easily navigable with any type of car. Our location in East Hawaii is a tropical rainforest area. It does rain here periodically. It wouldn't be so beautiful and green without it. Additionally, East Hawaii is known for its beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, and stunning ocean cliffs and is not known for its beaches. There are several beach parks in the area such as Kole Kole (1 miles away), Honoli'i (8 miles away), and in Hilo (10 miles away). This farm has two free-roaming dogs on the property which help us protect against wild pigs. Don't mind their bark! They are very friendly and will come say hello when you arrive. The owner lives on the same property nearby and is available to answer questions 24 hours a day (direct cell phone number provided after booking). However, most reservations will be self check-in, with detailed instructions provided. Your host will assume you want privacy unless you reach out. Details guests must know: Must climb stairs: There is about 1/2 of a flight of stairs leading up to the entrance Pet(s) live on property: Friendly, free-roaming dogs and cats (outside only) Some spaces are shared: The washer and dryer are used by the neighboring rental Amenity limitations: This is a 100% solar, off-grid home. Guests may be asked to conserve Surveillance or recording devices on property: At the gate and all entrances

Well kept. Great setting.

This place was awesome. We ended up stranded in Hawaii after our flight was cancelled and found this lovely place last minute.
The Good:
1. The farm is awesome! We have a 2 and 3 year old and they loved the animals. You can feed them and the animals were all friendly.
2. The ocean view is great and you can watch the sunrise.
3. Location is great. A little over an hour to Hapuna Beach and close to Hilo for shopping, etc.
Heads up:
1. The house (duplex) is solar powered so you have to watch how much you use at night/cloudy. Not a deal breaker but worth knowing.
2. No microwave. This is likely due to the solar as microwave use a lot of power. We made do with the propane gas oven/stove.
3. The house is a duplex with a shared living lanai area in between. There is no shared walls and we didn’t mind this at all!
Overall we would highly recommend this for anyone who loves animals! The farm is super cool and we had a great time!

My cousin, two of my aunts and myself stayed overnight for a country concert at the Grand Naniloa in Hilo on December 29th, 2023. Being from the country on Oahu, this place felt like home. Super spacious with beautiful ocean views. The open layout of the kitchen, dining and living rooms are perfect for families. Owner was friendly and accommodating. One of the cleanest VRBO’s that I’ve stayed in. I’d say it’s tied for first place, in my book. Saved this property because I was impressed and intend on staying here again when on Hilo side. On a side note: the drive from the property in Honomu to Hilo was a peaceful 15-20 minutes.

Great roomy property to stay at for a family. Adjacent properties below are crops, so the view to the Pacific Ocean is wide and open. Morning sunrise is absolutely gorgeous. The property is about 20min north of Hilo and close to Akaka Falls; a great place to station for exploring the Hamakua coast. We booked only 1 night because our nearby VRBO stay wasn't available for the last day of our trip. Sandy is very nice and gracious. We recommend this property to anyone.

The place is amazing - big even for the family of 5 adults, very clean, very comfortable bads, great kitchen, buitiful view and farm animals. About 10 minutes of drive to Akaka falls and 20 minutes of drive to Hilo

This was our first booking through vrbo so we didn't really know what to expect; but were looking for a toddler friendly place we could enjoy with our family friends who were also able to be on vacation with us last minute. Super spacious accommodations, loved the layout of the house and the full kitchen was very convenient for mornings & evenings in.
Things we loved: the proximity to downtown hilo, the view of the ocean from sunrise to sunset, saving our food scraps each day for the animals, comfortable beds, linens, and towels provided & access to games, toys and beach misc for our tots.
A few things that were unexpected (not a deal breaker but would have been nice to know ahead of time):
non working dryer,
4/5am rooster wake up calls (to be clear, we LOVED that the property had animals for the kids, but a note that they wake up extremely early would have been welcome), Subpar cookwear & utensils.
Overall this was a great vacation for us to visit a new place altogether, would recommend to other families or couples looking for a lowkey hawaii adventure.

The view was amazing! The hosts were very accommodating and extremely generous. They were also very friendly upon arrival. The house was clean and beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and if we ever venture back down we will definitely chose this venue again. This place offered so much more than we even knew we needed. What a way to spend our night on our Hawaii trip.

This place was so beautiful, the views were absolutely breathtaking. From the sunrise to sunset.. an amazing place to star gaze! We had a great time and the owners Sandra and Ava were super nice, friendly and helpful! Definitely would stay again.

We had our wedding here and it was absolutely perfect and I am so grateful of Sandra as a wonderful host. We hope to return again. We still cannot believe how amazing it was :)

We LOVE this place! The home is beautifully decorated, has lots of towels, and anything else you’d need, especially things for kids to play with.
We love that the house is situated on a farm with a view of the Pacific and has lots of farm animals. It’s wonderful that you rescue animals and nurse them back to health, which fits with our philosophy.

Spacious home. Beautiful ocean view. Comfortable beds. Friendly animals. We would not hesitant to stay here again.

Lovely property, great location, love the farm animals.

Very clean home with a lovely kitchen to cook in. The views are spectacular especially for sunrise and sunset. The animals are charming and friendly, less noisy than I expected. We brought our dog and he loved playing with Saki and smelling the goats. Easily accessed from the highway but remote enough to never hear traffic. It is solar powered and catchment water but that wasn't an issue at all for us. Feeling relaxed and grateful after a weekend on the farm.

The farmhouse was great!
Pros: beautiful location and views, very quiet/peaceful, lovely decor, friendly and helpful owner, fun little town nearby (go by Mr. Ed's bakery!), easy to get to, interesting experiencing being off grid/solar, comfy beds and nice bathrooms, cute farm animals/pets, easy parking
Cons: shared lanai did mean a little lack of privacy (didn't really bother us but good to know), speed bumps on the entrance road were killer on our rental sedan
Other: no A/C or microwave (we didn't need either), 20-25 minutes to Hilo--a little farther to grocery store
This was a great place to stay and we would definitely return!

We stayed here for 3 days/2 nights and we absolutely LOVED it. The house itself is really spacious and has beautiful views of both the ocean and Mauna Kea ♥️ the animals on the farm were so cute and fun to hang out with, and the landlord/owner was so nice! She let us hold one of her baby lambs and it made our night. Thanks so much Sandra!!!

We loved the location, views, animals and accommodations. Highly recommend a stay here. The bonus of the stay is meeting Bentley, the pigmy goat.

This is such a beautiful little piece of paradise tucked away close to Akaka Falls. Our family loved the beautiful home and quiet this place brought. The animals on the farm are friendly and adorable! There was a peaceful feeling up here and we enjoyed sitting on the porch, taking a walk, and talking aliens the large kitchen table. This is truly a piece of paradise! The accommodations were clean, and the kitchen was nice and large for our family of six.

Everything was beautiful and clean in the home.
I wish we were told ahead of time that the home was off the grid. We were asked to conserve electricity and water. When on vacation I want to just relax and not have to worry about those kinds of things. We were also told that we could use the washer and dryer but there was a laundry basket full of clothes in front of the washer giving us the impression that they were going to wash. Therefore we were did not get to wash our clothes.

My family had an absolute best time at this home! Location, amenities, animals and owners all were just so wonderful. We would highly recommend this place for anyone.

This home is in a great location to jump off from for some of the Big Island’s best tourism destinations; South Point, green and black sand beaches near South Point, Hilo where we snorkeled in small beaches with tidal pools Volcanoes National Park, Akaki Falls, Rainbow Falls, Waipio Valley, horseback and UTV riding and more. The house has an amazing ocean view as you gaze across the working farm below. It’s so quiet there you feel like a local. The house has everything you need and the kitchen has everything you need to cook all of your meals. The hosts made us feel like family and were never bothered when we asked questions. We will definitely stay there again on our next visit.

Love this place. Great view, peaceful, quiet farm setting. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The location provided a great rural feel just minutes from Hilo. It worked well as a base for all of our activities on the east side of the island, from Hilo to Volcanoes National Park to Mauna Kea. The house was spacious, with a generous open area in the living room/dining room. The views with the ocean out the front picture window and the mountains out the back exceeded expectations. Our children enjoyed the farm animals. Given the opportunity to return to Hawaii, we would definitely stay here again. Thanks to Sandra for the hospitality!

Our host was absolutely accomodating. Have some family members looking into renting the space for a small wedding. The cleanliness of the place was unmatched. Mayor Butters is an absolute superstar. The views from the property were breathtaking. Close to town for necessities but far enough away from the hustle of city life.

We only stayed for one night, but the house provided the perfect accommodations. Very clean and spacious. The kids had a blast feeding the farm animals, and the dogs are super cute and friendly.

More remote property 15-20 minutes to Hilo, well taken care of property, especially if you love animals. The view every morning and night were amazing. Great host!

The rental was spacious, comfortable, and quiet.
The host was helpful and gave us all the privacy we needed. The price was very reasonable for all the property offers. The property is surrounded by a farm and has a wonderful ocean view. We loved the variety of animal.
We would definitely stay again!

We stayed here on the last 2 days of a 15 day vacation on the big island and Oahu. By far our favorite rental property. It’s very big, has all the modern accoutrements one would expect when traveling. Very clean. And the host Julie is extremely helpful and accommodating! The location is beyond beautiful. Absolutely will be coming back here in the future. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Thanks again!

Sandra was very accommodating. The location is a little of the beaten path, but well worth it. The animals, both indoors and outdoors, were an absolute joy. The children were very excited and the animals reciprocated, they wished for more time with animals, which is what we plan to do again. Thank you Sandra!

I was welcomed each morning with a stunning sunrise and friendly canine greetings. A family member pointed out an incoming cruise ship on the horizon my first morning. The spacious accommodation and open landscape set the stage for thoughtful exploration. The welcome packet provided an insiders guide, which I followed up into the hills and to the sea. I enjoyed kayaking on Hilo bay, followed steams up to striking waterfalls, and learned some thoughtful history.
Mahalo for your hospitality.

The house was beautifully put together and welcoming…from the beds (and crib) ready to go, to the kitchen amenities if needed, to puzzles and games for fun. The only downside was being off the grid, which we didn’t notice on the rental write-up because it’s at the very bottom of the listing, and requiring a generator when there’s been little sun. Said generator was directly outside the master bedroom window, and was turned on very late (2am ish?) and again at 5:45am…not a good sleeping environment. Maybe look into moving it to a more appropriate place that isn’t so obnoxious? Loved the animals and other experiences though.

This place was in a great location. Amazing views and awesome animals on property. It is off grid and 100% solar which is a great for the state and planet. Just keep this in mind if it is cloudy and/or rainy out during your stay. Great communication with the host!

Awesome view. Really nice animals roam property. Dogs and Cats are extremely friendly along with goats and chickens. Very peaceful. Exceptional host with a lot of great information. Great location.

We ventured to Hilo for a couple of days to adventure. Sandra's place was the perfect location. Close to Akaka and Rainbow Falls, and not too far for Volcanoes National Park. The farm animals and puppers on the property were super cute, but be prepared, you may be woken early by the roosters. The view was amazing, and we enjoyed our stay here!

We loved this retreat! Getting experience the rainforests of Hawaii and then spend time on a working farm was fantastic! Sandra’s communication was quick and thorough. The property was clean, adorable and hadbooks available to explore to find more things to do in the area. We especially loved all the animals on the premise and that our boys were able to explore and meet the animals. Although our stay was brief, it was truly memorable!
