Our hosts were so nice and shared with us the history of the house and the neighborhood. We enjoyed the fresh flowers throughout the house. The house is so close to Main Street too. Very enjoyable stay.

Convenient, walking distance to main street, easy parking, & safe. Lousy continental breakfast (packaged cereal, milk & Miss Debbie snacks) and owner not the friendliest individual. Had an issue with toilet flushing, informed owner and owner left plunger in hallway or us to remedy ourselves.

I can't remember being this disappointed in anything. Never in a B&B experience. I feel we were misled and this property is misrepresented. We buried our 88 year old mother in February and the last time she was in the hospital, she helped me plan and make arrangements for this trip. It was a thank you to my sister and brother-in-law for all they did for our mother over these last years. We live in Houston and I was not about to do much of the at home care for her. After she died, this trip became even more special. One of the most special reasons to indulge and stay at a B&B is for the Breakfast. Our hostess tried to hand me 2 small bottles of milk as I was walking up the stairs and said this was for our breakfast. I understand covid concerns, but she was not so worried about covid that she had enough respect or concern for us to wear masks in the house common areas. When I got upstairs there were some out of date Little Debbie cakes and some cups of children's cereal, NOTHING ELSE. I understood breakfast would be in our room, but I had no idea it would be so disappointing. We did find wonderful breakfast spots during our stay. Our bath/shower was disgustingly moldy and nasty. I took my pocketknife and scraped scum off of the tile and from grout lines. I have supporting pictures. When we arrived, there was a used piece of toiletpaper attached to the inside of the toilet bowl that was still there when we departed. I understand this is an old house, but the toilet was disgusting. Most of the glaze has been worn off of the bowl and it is most unsightly especially for the amount charged for this stay. There was NO shower soap and 1 opened already half used bottle of shampoo in the shower with someone else's hair caught under the half screwed on cap. We stayed 4 nights and at no time did the owners check in with us to see if we needed anything else or check our rooms and replace needed items. My brother-in-law cut a bar of Irish Spring he had brought and shared with us. We checked in the cabinet in the bathroom and in the supply armour in the hall. There was only conditioner. When we arrived, there were 2 bottles of water in the minifridge that were not replenished during our 4 night stay. Do not expect a comfortable queen bed in this suite. It was the most uncomfortable bed I have experienced in many many years. I should have used my better judgment and find other lodging when I first sat on the bed. Our first night, the owners fried salmon patties or something that made staying in the house almost impossible for the next 4 days. Most disrespectful for guests to endure. I understand that fresh flowers were part of the decoration of both suites. I emailed the owners 2 days before we were to arrive to have flowers in my sister's room when we arrived to express to her what a special daughter and sister she is and how much it means to me for the care she gave our mother. I simply asked if they could meet the florist for the delivery. I did not get a reply until after we were already on the road and I did not see the reply until we were in bed our first night there. My request was not answered, I was just told not to worry about it, flowers would be in the room when we arrived. We come from 4 generations of florists. I had specific flowers I wanted and a specific way I wanted them delivered. MOST IMPORTANTLY was the card message and what I wanted to say to her and to thank her with all my heart. I let that pass. The following night, I got an email with a request for payment for $75 for floral services for the flowers in my sister's room that clearly are stated as complementary in each room. I could understand if there was some misunderstanding, I did not ask them to put flowers in her room, I asked them to meet a florist to have MY flowers delivered. At no time was I told there would be a $75 charge for anything. I feel I was clearly being scammed. When I booked these rooms, there was a $35 charge shown for damages and never was it disclosed that it was non-refundable. As there were no damages to the property, I inquired when we would be getting this refund and received a quite rude reply that we were told when we booked of this. There was NO mention of it, but it was on the invoice but with no explanation. I feel if this charge is non-refundable, it should be disclosed. The A/C in this suite hardly works. I can only imagine what is was like in the heat of the summer. I specifically chose this lodging so that we could have the entire house to ourselves without other guests. I told the owners when we arrived that we would like to keep our doors unlocked between our suites as we were the only guests and she acknowledged. Over the next two days, we came back to the residence on two occasions and the front door was unlocked and there was nobody in the house. We did not leave the door unlocked. I had a laptop and my tablet and my sister had all of her jewelry in her room. I had to ask them to keep the residence secure while we were there. I have pictures of what the front of this place looks like and this is grossly different from the pictures shown for promotion of this property. Clearly deception. This is not a case of it being early spring and things are not out yet. THIS IS CLEAR AND DELIBERATE DECEPTION. I have chosen to stay in B&Bs when I travel for over 40 years...since my first B&B experience in the 1970s. I continue to chose to stay in a B&B for the ambiance and special feeling given to guests of a B&B stay. From now on, I will be more diligent in making my reservations. I was leery when I only saw 2 reviews since 8/2019. Now I know either truthful negative reviews are removed or people are just too lazy to warn other unknowing guests.

If you looking for super friendly innkeepers, delicious breakfasts, incredibly convenient location, and a house filled with beautiful antiques, then Gillespie House is a perfect choice for you. We spent our honeymoon here and had a wonderful time. If you're looking for high-end creature comforts, keep in mind that this is an older B&B. The mattress is a little worse for the wear, as is the couch in the sitting room, and the sink, toilet, and shower could all do with a little updating. But that didn't stop us from thoroughly enjoying our stay.
