No cats allowed.* Welcome to Mountain Family Lodge! Mountain Family Lodge is a unique property just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone and Blowing Rock and close to Appalachian Ski Mountain and Tweetsie Railroad. Mountain Family Lodge can accommodate up to twenty-eight (28) guests among seven (7) suites. Three of the suites have alcove rooms with twin beds. There is a living room on the first floor with a queen sofa bed. Nine (9) full bathrooms and two (2) updated kitchens with ample dining options make this suitable for larger groups. *We do permit large events here, however, we do not assist in facilitating or coordinating such events. The owner permits them on a case-by-case basis, and an event coordinator will work with you on the details. Planned events such as weddings and events that will accommodate large groups of visitors and parking must receive advanced approval and will incur an additional event impact fee of $2500. Please indicate the "Event Impact Fee" when booking online, or let us know of your plans if booking over the phone. We can then contact the owner for approval, and complete the reservation by applying the event impact fee. *The neighboring Appalachian Mountain Lodge with its nine (9) bedrooms and two (2) cottages can be rented along with this property for large events, accommodating as many as seventy (70) total guests. Mountain Family Lodge offers two living rooms, a media room, and a pool table area for numerous gathering points. Outside offers a wrap-around deck with outdoor dining, a large covered courtyard, a hot tub, an outdoor fire pit, a nicely landscaped yard, and two grills, gas and charcoal. Parking is available for up to eight (8) vehicles, and the surrounding woods and mountain roads offer ample walking and hiking trails. In 2018 the second floor received an HVAC system with central heating. Since 2019 each bedroom on the first floor now has a mini-split HVAC unit and heat. The entire house also has radiant heat within the flooring to make those winter nights extra toasty. The interior is an upscale, contemporary mountain design. Furniture is updated, and there are comfortable beds of all sizes. The house has hardwood floors, kitchens with granite counters and updated appliances, flat-panel HDTVs with Charter Cable programming, and WiFi internet. There is one washer/dryer set for guests to use. The comfortable media room offers a screen and projector for cable TV and a blue ray player. The sunroom on the second floor has a large flat-screen TV and plenty of comfortable seating. The primary dining area can seat up to twenty (20) guests comfortably, and each kitchen also has a dining room that can seat up to 14 additional guests. The 8-foot slate pool table, which converts to a dining table, is in a central area of the house with soaring ceilings and a cupola allowing in natural sunlight overhead. *RECENT CHANGES: THIS HOME HAS UNDERGONE SOME FANTASTIC RENOVATIONS!* The owner is excited to announce that the home now has nine (9) full bathrooms, eight (8) of which have been remodeled, ten (10) sleeping areas, new interior and exterior paint, upgraded bedroom decor and style, and a new deck. There is now A/C in every bedroom, and the queen sleeper sofa has a new mattress. Seven (7) suites with twelve (12) total sleeping rooms and eight (8) full bathrooms are as follows: First Floor Bedrooms and Bathrooms include a total of 4 Suites with 6 Bedrooms and 5 Full Bathrooms: Home On The Range Suite (accommodates 3) - 2 bedrooms, one twin bed, one queen bed, a full bathroom Terra Suite (accommodates 3) - 2 bedrooms, one twin bed, one king bed, a full bathroom Butterfly Garden Suite (accommodates 2) - one king bed, ensuite bathroom, covered patio access Hummingbird Garden Suite (accommodates 2) - one king bed, ensuite bathroom, covered patio access Second Floor Bedrooms and Bathrooms include a total of 3 Suites with 6 Bedrooms and 3 Full Bathrooms: Orient Express Suite (accommodates up to 4) - master bedroom with king bed and queen futon, ensuite bathroom, deck access Secret Garden Suite (accommodates 2) - queen bed, full bathroom, deck access Blue Ridge Manor Suite (accommodates 4) - 2 bedrooms attached, one with two (2) twin beds and one with a king bed, full bathroom, deck access Zen Garden Bedroom (accommodates 2) - queen bed, open-air patio access, shared bathroom with the Bamboo Hideaway bedroom Bamboo Hideaway Bedroom (accommodates 4) - queen bed, twin-over-twin bunk bed, shared bathroom with the Zen bedroom This house can sleep up to twenty-eight (28) guests total, including the sleeper sofas. There are eight (8) full bathrooms, including bathrooms on both levels directly accessible from the hallways. Each suite has either a full bathroom ensuite or a bathroom conveniently nearby. This lodge was designed to accommodate large groups as comfortably as possible There is a full kitchen on each level with an oven and stovetop, full refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher in both. There is a living room with ample comfortable seating and an HDTV and BluRay player on the lower level. The media room also offers comfortable seating, a full-size pullout couch for the kids, and a 75" TV with a sound bar, and a DVD player. You may plug in your Xbox using your own HDMI cable. Please restore the cable inputs to their original location so that the next guest can enjoy the same experience. On the upper level, sofas and chairs flank the perimeter walls of the sunroom and a large TV with a BluRay/DVD player. Centered in the upper level is the dramatic cupola with towering ceilings and high windows allowing in natural light. Underneath it is the 8-foot slate pool table. A custom wooden top converts the pool table into a dining table seating fourteen (14) guests. Adjacent to it is a second dining table that can seat six (6) to eight (8) more guests. There is also a dining area in each of the two (2) kitchens seating six (6) and eight (8). With all four (4) tables, you can dine up to thirty-four (34) guests inside. Outside, in addition to the deck and the covered stone courtyard, you will find a wonderful wood-burning fire pit, a hot tub, and we are currently constructing a new outdoor dining and cooking patio, which will be a big hit!

Overall great home. Tons of room, which was great. The water pressure on the well system is a bit of an inconvenience, but it was stated in the home the water pressure issue. Otherwise decently clean. A couple of minor house issues, but the cabin rental manager was nice about my report.

My friends stayed here for our annual Tweetsie trip we take with our kids. There were 11 adults and 10 kids ranging from 4 months to 7 years old. We loved the layout of the bedrooms and bathrooms. Each family had privacy and space when needed. The outdoor space is incredible. Loved how we could all sit at that huge patio table together at the same time! There is a grassy area for the kids to run around and a beautiful fire pit. There were some issues with the house that didn't totally disrupt our stay but would want to make sure they were addressed, hence the knock off one star. I contacted the rental company about these. We had a host on call via text and phone who was very friendly and responsive! Perfect location for Tweetsie, Alpine Roller Coaster, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, Boone, and all the highlights.

Great house
I would definitely stay again. It is not easy finding homes that can accommodate a large group with many bedrooms. Check in process was great and with a personal greeting. House was clean with plenty of space for my group of 12 coworkers.

Family get together in Mountain Family Lodge
The house was not clean when we checked in. One bed had mold on the sheets and had to be washed before use. There were fluids spilled on the pool table, the stairs, and down the stairway walls that were not cleaned up. Most dishes needed to be washed before use and were in bad shape. We were told that we would have all of the dishes needed to prepare the meals, but there were no pots that were usable for the task. The washer was moldy and had to be bleached before use. There was no vacuum on-site for cleanup. We were very disappointed in the state of the house.

It was a pleasure working with Carolina Cabin Rentals. They were extremely professional before, during, and after the rental was completed. We were able to reach out to a "host" individual that answered all our questions and provided us with immediate feedback when necessary.
My three-star rating reflects the rental property itself. The house is beautiful and has tremendous potential. It was obvious some renovations were done to improve this beautiful property. IE: deck repairs, outdoor steps, kitchen ceiling, new bathroom. While the house can sleep 12, quarters will be tight. The whole house needs a major deep clean...even more so considering we are amid the COVID crisis.
We experienced a strong musty odor in the meeting room on the second floor. Enough so that we didn't use that room. The furniture should also be updated as it is not comfortable and contain odors and food debris. We detected strong odors in each kitchen. It took a while but we realized those smells came from the PLASTIC garbage containers! Crumbs and dirty stained paper towels were found underneath the bags that lined the containers. The containers were never cleaned prior to our visit. Utensils in both kitchens were worn, warped, or damaged. They all must be replaced to be considered useable. We washed all utensils prior to using them as they did not look clean. Coupled with that problem, is the dishwasher which should be replaced as it did not clean the dishes well at all. One TV separated from the wall mount and hung haphazardly for 36 hours after notification. The light/fan in the upstairs suite was not in working order. The bathrooms contained a build-up of grime on shower stalls and sinks. It's a great house but is out-dated and lacks cleanliness. Future rentals should be halted until these issues can be addressed. It will take more than a "cleaning" individual to do the job. It needs professional cleaning to address long-term neglect. I do hope this review will not be posted for others to view. Absolutely Amazing!
We came up for our team meeting and had the most amazing time! There were 21 of us and we had plenty of room! We used the back porch more than anything. It is an absolutely beautiful cabin! We could not have been more pleased. We will definitely rent this house again!
The only advice I would give is to add some celling fans to the porch to help on hot day ♥️

Family Reunion
We rented both Appalachian mountain Lodge and Mountain Family Lodge for a family reunion. It worked really well for us. We enjoyed the yard space for our family games. On the back patio/ porch there were quite a few broken chairs that were there ..... I wished those had been removed. Overall the place was generally clean, though there was dust in the corners. I would return .......... it was a great space for out family reunion. We all had a nice big area to gather and we also had our own space to go.

Great place for a big family gathering.
We stayed at the Mountain Family Lodge over Christmas. It was great for our multi-generational group. We appreciated the two kitchens for meal prep and some holiday baking. The kitchens were well equipped but we brought along a few specialty items (rice cooker, huge mixing bowls). The surrounding area was full of nice day hikes and the proximity to the Parkway was useful.
The only issue was that the pull out sofa in the downstairs living room was not usable for adults to sleep on. It should be replaced or not counted in available sleeping rooms. It was awful.
Overall a fabulous stay - the management company brought some pies for Christmas dinner and had a tree already set up. Would consider coming back in the summer when we could use the porch more.

We had a great time. The only thing was the sleeper sofa in the small room downstairs is very worn. The couple that was in this room did not get any rest. It was very uncomfortable to sleep on. Other than this everything was great. There was plenty of room for our large group and everyone was able to have their own sleeping space. Yet it was awesome to have rooms large enough that the whole group could gather and fellowship together. The house was clean and the kitchens were well equipped for large group cooking. Thanks

A lovely home and beautiful setting. All the ladies really enjoyed relaxing, gathering and fellow-shipping together while we were there. The views in the morning were awesome.
One recommendation is to update the cushions on the front porch (worn from the weather) and replacing some of the lights to the fire pit (hard to see where to step at night).
I would definitely rent this home again and working with Carolina Cabin Rentals was a pleasurable experience.

Home seems to be in a little bit of disrepair
We have hosted our company retreat at this location 3 out of the past six years. We loved it the last time we came in 2017. We still had a great time, and love the surroundings, the field, the trail, the eating area, the firepit and much more. However, it seems that it has not been as well kept as the previous times we've been there. Here is some of what we experienced that might make us rethink where we hold our next retreat:
- The showers seem to be increasingly unreliable (no water pressure, long waits for the water to warm)
- The attic HVAC unit was leaking through the doorframe of the Hummingbird Room and caused the door to warp so the door wouldn't lock
- Cracked countertop
- Soundbar downstairs in the entertainment room has been removed (not sure if it was stolen by previous guests) but it should be replaced. We enjoy watching shows or movies down there.
These are just a few small things, but they speak to what seems to be trending towards a neglected house. We absolutely love this place and don't want to go elsewhere. However, we may do so in the future. I hope this isn't dispiriting or frustrating for you. it is genuinely meant to give constructive feedback on some steps that can be taken to care for an awesome place.

Excellent stay
The house overall was very impressive. Nice view, everything inside was very clean and my entire family really enjoyed it. And we are typically hard to impress. We will likely rent again, very nice property.

Guys Weeken
Overall we had a great time. Few comments:
1. Upstairs deck needs work. Also the grill upstairs just needs to be thrown out. It was rotted.
2. Upstairs TV not in HD was not ideal for a group of Dads getting away to watch Bball games.
3. Larger fire pit would have been nice.

Abundance of Bedrooms
This was a good location for access to Boone and surrounding area. The house was huge with many bedrooms. However, the design felt like multiple additions and the flow of the house was awkward. Both dishwashers need replacing (the top trays fall off of the rollers every time you attempt to use). The grills were both very old and barely functional. The worst part for our group is that the kitchens were separated from the great room and we rented the space for 3 days of planning meetings. If you are just looking for lodging then it will work fine for you.

Great for Groups...
We found the property to have ample space for our large family reunion. 3 of the bedrooms even had second rooms within, which were perfect for family members with smaller children. The kitchen upstairs was well organized and labeled, and we found everything we needed. The bedrooms were stocked and the house was over all very clean, and in great shape. The view/ location and grounds were excellent. I do want to note that there are 2 bedrooms without bathrooms- and the shared bathroom is on a DIFFERENT floor- which was fairly inconvenient for those guests needing to shower etc. We would definitely rent this home again.

Pretty nice. Great views
There was some electrical issues with the house which shut the heat off on the bottom level and some lights when we stayed there and couldnt reach anyone until the morning but they did send someone out to come fix it. Other than that the house was nice and clean and the hot tub was great.

Fantastic vacation home for a large extended family
We recently celebrated a family reunion in the Family Mountain Lodge. We had 30 family members which included people from 11 different family groups. The house provided lots of rooms to sleep in and spaces to spread out. We held a Christmas gift exchange in the upper living room and I although it was not a large space it was perfect because we were all together. The configuration of the house is unconventional but did provide lots of space to spread out. I gave the house 4 stars because the heating was inconsistent throughout the house and there was no interior communal gathering space for the number of people that the house sleeps. Specifically related to the HVAC some rooms were very hot while others were cool. The kitchen spaces are small but have lots of utensils, cookware & appliances. The outdoor space has a large hot tub and plenty of tables & chairs for seating. Although it was cold & rainy while we were visiting we still managed to enjoy the outdoor space. I would recommend this house for a place to make great family memories.
