About this cottage rental

Situated in Saint Augustine, this lovely cottage for $85 per night is a great option for your next break. In full disclosure The Red Cottage is a 100 year old structure, built from lumber salvaged after the 1914 fire. Now more than a hundred years later it has its quirks and flaws and very few level or straight lines but it's charm, warmth and persona are enchanting. The Red Cottage isn't for everybody. So with that said, if you’re hesitant the cottage may not be for you. It is rustic, quaint, cozy and charming. It has recently been renovated and has all of the modern luxuries with a touch of its history. It has been converted to a one room sitting area/bedroom with a small kitchen and bathroom (shower only). The kitchen is equipped with a Keurig coffee machine multiple coffee pods, cream & sugar, a small refrigerator, stove, microwave, a toaster, and normal kitchen necessities. A flagstone patio offers outside seating. Free off-street parking with extra space for trailer/boat or a recreational vehicle is on the property. The Cottage sits on the back of the property overlooking Castillo Drive, the entrance to the city. Francis Field, across the street, is the downtown event field/ dog park. The Cottage sleeps two comfortably with a large loft that sleeps two. I have to divulge, the loft is a steep ascent up a vertical ladder, so if you're considering this space you need to be agile. Less than 200 yards East is The Visitor Center and the trolley hub. The Fort and Saint George Street are 100 yards beyond. The Cottage sits on a large piece of property behind a turn-of-the-century Victorian home. The Cottage was also built around the turn of the century where Manuel Mendez rolled cigars until the mid 1930's. Short drives take you to the beautiful beaches of Anastasia State Park and St. Augustine Beach. On the way to the beach, stop by the Alligator Farm and the Historic St. Augustine Light House. For shopping, choose from area outlet malls, flea market, and several farmer's markets. Safe travels and peace be with you. Barbara, Hilary and Jeremy

The smell of cigarettes was so bad we couldn't stay and had to cancel. I will say that the location is great and the owner was very friendly and offered us a full refund which we accepted. So that was good. But people should be aware of the smell issue.

The cottage is in walking distance to all of the attractions. We enjoyed our walks to sight see. The cottage is rustic as described on VBRO. We enjoyed its uniqueness. We were allowed to park on the property while we went sight seeing e4 hours before check-in and check in an hour early.

I stayed here with my 2 young daughters and we had a great time. They loved sleeping in the loft. Jeremy was very kind and helpful. He gave us wonderful suggestions on where to go and what to see. The area is rather noisy, but it stopped around 10 and we were there on the busiest week of the year.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for Christmas Eve and woke up here Christmas Day. The cabin is so cute and so much character. We loved it! My favorite part was the little loft! I felt like I was in a tree house. We said this will probably be our go to place when we visit st Augustine now. Oh! And there was a cute little kitty outside on the patio furniture! 😁

Property is not as described. Dirty, linens soiled, damage flooring, walls rotted and soft in areas. This was a shed turned into a rental. Left early only stayed 1 night as no option that late in evening to change places. Had a urine or cat smell to it. Came back from dinner to find 20+ vehicles parked right up against the house and around our vehicles. People walking behind and beside the house because they parked in yard. This is a shed to the main house which is on property and occupied. Would give no stars if option.

We booked three nights but left after second night. This property needs a complete renovation. Owner pleasant but needs to address the numerous issues, instead of making excuses to the accurate negative reviews.
