This is a house made for memorable vacations. Lode up on groceries and you never need to leave. Lots of places to gather and the river is perfect for swimming, fishing, and listening to.

This special home of the Wolds is an idyllic and rustic Spot to deepen relationships, laugh and play games and immerse yourself in a natural setting. We are thankful to have had this fabulous space for our family reunion.

There were 19 of us from ages 2 to 74. The property was just as described but we didn’t realize the true beauty of the cabins and natural surroundings until we got there. We lacked for nothing in the way of kitchen and dining amenities and adequate beds and baths. The fact that the only full baths (3) were in the main cabin never presented a problem. Dinner was at the huge table on the deck followed by outdoor games, fishing and a huge log fire with plenty of seating. A day in Glacier National Park, on Flathead Lake and on paddle boards on Swan Lake, all in reasonable proximity, added to the fun had by all.
We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a heavenly experience in Montana.

I thought the property was even better than I was imagining. The kids had such a good time, the weather was perfect, the bathroom situation worked out great and the owner was awesome. What an awesome property!

Best Family Vacation Ever!
What a wonderful location! Our family (8 adults, 5 children) takes a family vacation every summer. We all voted this as our best vacation ever! We loved being right on the river which was great for floating and fishing. The deer visited a couple times a day. The accommodations were perfect as was our host!
We enjoyed being close to Bigfork and Glacier National Park. Our family definitely wants to return!

We couldn’t have asked for a better place for our group of three families to stay and play in Montana. The view and river were magical and where we started and ended each day. Very homey with everything we needed. Great porch for dining, games and cards. Kids loved the bunkhouse and parents enjoyed the quiet of our own cabins. Good hiking and lakes nearby, and close enough for day trips to Glacier and Whitefish. Thank you, Doug, for sharing your family retreat with us!!

We absolutely loved our stay...the location, the cabins, the porch, and of course the river. We had an extend family reunion(and kids from 9 to young adults) and to a family we all agreed the property exceeded our expectations. Set up perfectly for 30+ to play, converse, sit in water etc. and yet be in the "same" location. Good communication, reasonable pricing, and priceless location for groups like this. We'll be back...we loved it!

This place was perfect. We caught a bunch of fish right off the deck, swam in the refreshing river, played games, & enjoyed the long summer nights! 10/10 would recommend.
One thing noteworthy. For twenty guys, we had enough wifi to connect to for all of us. We weren't there to be on our cell phones but were able to have enough to connect with freidns and family who weren't with us.

After not being able to see our family for over a year, this was the perfect retreat. Our four sons and their families made 12 of us, and everyone had room to gather as well as their own space. Everything we needed was there; the property is well stocked with just about everything you can think of. To be there together in such an incredibly beautiful location was a real treat, and the family is already talking about our next trip. True, there is no cell service, but the internet worked very well. One son had an online meeting he had to do, and he found that the signal in the office in the main house was stronger than in the cabins. One night the power went out and it meant everyone had to put down their phones. I loved it!

FANTASTIC FAMILY FLEXCATION!
Location, location, location!
We looked at many retreats and chose this one based on:
Location
Remote Riverside Retreat was absolutely perfect for our family flexcation, flyfishing, floating, and hiking!
Glacier International Airport - 60 minutes north.
Glacier National Park - 90 minutes north.
Cabins
Main Cabin – Cozy two bedrooms, three bathrooms. We sat on the large deck overlooking the river every night to watch the sunset over the mountains as the river rolled by. Nice, well-equipped kitchen with an oven, microwave, dishwasher, two fridges, and even a small fridge for beer/soda. Convenient washer and dryer on property and nice new linens and towels.
Bunkhouse – Perfect for the kids! Plenty of indoor and outdoor games. Didn’t hear “I’m bored” once!
Guest Cabins – Three additional two-story cabins circle the large lawn making for a very family-centric environment.
Outside
All the cabins were lit up with lights for plenty of light at night. We even caught sight of a few deer passing through! Fantastic firepit right out in front of the main cabin deck was perfect for s'mores. Main deck has a fun foosball table and a handcrafted pool table.
WIFI worked great for our remote phone counseling jobs and our six kids school zoom classes and nightly movie binges. We even FaceTimed Grandma and Grandpa to include them in some of the fun.
We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back!

Serenity Now :)
Doug, our host did a wonderful job helping us settle in to his beautiful and warm cabin. We spent every evening on the porch, watching the sunset, overlooking the Swan River. The setting was serene and secluded. And the cabin was well stocked with everything we needed for our week in the Swan Valley.
We highly recommend staying at Doug’s park-like setting. We only used the main cabin, but clearly they could accommodate multiple families with the multiple cabins on property.
When Mother Nature tossed us a challenge, Doug was very quick to help us out. Overall, we had a great and memorable time.

Kitchen was super unorganized. Felt very run down and cluttered. He has a solid stone 3 inch thick coffee table on wheels, meant for moving assumably, the wheels buckled and it came crashing down not even moved 2 feet. Super liability if someone got hurt, and then he charged us an exorbitant fee to fix a home-made with screws that would never support the weight. He also claimed to have some special curtains, I NEVER saw, that we somehow damaged and charged us over $1500 in repairs. We treated that place like GOLD! We paid for 20+ people and only brought 11. I felt very taken advantage of. There are way better places to stay where you won't be ripped off.

First, I understand the point for many is get off the grid. And if you want a vacation guaranteed not to be able to use your phone 90% of the trip, this is the place for you. There is ZERO cell reception. Your only choices are the owners land line and wifi calling. So pair that with horrible wifi (even with the 3 extenders we bought after arriving) & you get nothing. For our working trip this was unacceptable. I communicated my outrage that the listing does not mention this to the owner as soon as I booked & the data was finally provided in the details of the booking only. This is not okay though his answer was worse. His answer was simply that they currently had a tech company running their business & have had zero complaints. After staying there myself I know this is impossible & further lies told by the owner. His son arrived on our property the third day to fix the sprinklers and we discussed this. It got no better despite his attempts & then two additional days of him coming to the property still no better. Finally he said it could only handle 5 devices. So basically unless you are 1 single family with probably just one child, you will have zero ways to communicate to the outside world, search for activities to do or even ask the owner for help through VRBO where there is a record of your conversation. This is not per the listing. Now that that is out of the way, the cabins are decent as long as you’re okay with no running water, which didn’t bother us. The main cabin has 3 full bathrooms With showers (though don’t try to shower at the exact same time as another). The bunk house has 1 toilet and cold water only and the other 3 cabins each have 2 beds & no running water, toilet, etc. The “first cabin” had a baby gate which was great for me, my husband and our 18 mo old. After purchasing a pack n play we discovered they had one in the 2nd cabin. So now they have 2 if any of you are bringing littles. They had 2 fridges which was very convenient for our 3 families all with kids ranging 6 mo to 13 years. We didn’t use their games except fooseball. But they do have a pool table on the deck as well. There are no dressers anywhere on property. The space is definitely serene, though that water is very frigid so please go in prepared for that. There is deer that come into the property constantly & while we were warned of bears & mountain lions none appeared on our tripHighly recommend Narrowpath Adventures!!!!!!

Phenomenal space in a beautiful setting
Our stay here was far beyond expectation. The property looks even better in person, the setting is beyond compare, and amenities made our week comfortable. The family who owns the property has clearly have taken good care of it and have incorporated their personal touches and skills into the character of the buildings. The setting is serene and right on the river with a mountain backdrop. Would absolutely recommend to family and friends and will likely try to use this spot for a reunion in the future.

Better than the pictures
We had a group of 7 families, 22 people total, and this beautiful property in a gorgeous location housed us all well. It was a priority for us to be able to stay in close proximity to each other so that we could share all our meals and late night conversations. We cooked all our meals easily in the kitchen/2 gas grills. We all ate on the generous covered deck. We passed the evenings around the fire pit, on the deck, and/or in the living room. That we could all share all this space AND give every adult their own room was great. The teens loved sharing the bunkroom. Younger kids were able to stay with/near their parents.
We waded/floated in the river everyday. The kids loved looking for frogs and skipping stones. Every morning we enjoyed eating breakfast while looking out over the river.
There were lots of cozy places to curl up with a book/take a nap. We were also very impressed by all the artistic touches and evidence of impressive woodworking and copper-smithing skills throughout the property.
Nearby (within an hour drive) we found lots of hiking - including Glacier National Park, tube rentals to float down the river, horseback riding, and even a sailboat ride in Flathead Lake.
We did all our major shopping for the week in Kalispell and Missoula. There are 2 large fridges in the main cabin + 1 small fridge. The smaller cabins also each have little fridges.
Driving our garbage 25 miles to the transfer station was the biggest downside, but since we were out and about during the week, we were able to take care of it without too much inconvenience. But make sure the last car to leave has room for that last bag or two.
Also note that the three small cabins have no running water or toilets at all. The toilet that you’d think would be least disruptive to use for middle of the night runs to the potty is a loud, gravity-flushing “Growler”. By the end of our stay we were all accustomed to the loud flush.
We would have been happy to stay another week. We would strongly recommend this property to other large, outdoor-loving groups.

Beautiful, peaceful location. Lots of space!!
Our group of 26 had a wonderful stay! It was such a beautiful peaceful place. So many fun things to do. We loved sitting around the fire pit and playing games on the lawn. When we arrived, Doug showed us around and gave us a very thorough explanation of how everything worked. The place was very well stocked with firewood, games, reading material, and toiletries (including lots of bug repellent which was extremely helpful).

Slice of Paradise
This setting was fabulous! The accommodations were perfect for 8 Couples; Mom & Dad, 7 siblings and your spouses. This was a fairly central location for our family as we were coming from Washington, Alaska, Colorado, Minnesota and Finland. Swan River Retreat offered something for everybody. Whitewater rafting by Glacier, day hikes in the Mission Mountains and Bob Marshall Wilderness, trout fishing and swimming in the Swan River right off the front porch. We all so much enjoyed the peace and serenity of this location. So much quiet, peaceful beauty in the mountains. No cell service, which was a huge plus, wifi available which made contact with our kids and babysitters at home easy. Our family extends a huge thank you to the Wold family for sharing this slice of paradise with us.

Amazing
This property is everything that is advertised, the owner is caring and engaged. The location is somewhat secluded, if you need a true get away from life week this is your location. We had amazing times around the fire and the covered porch is unbelievable outdoor living space. It feels and looks like the river runs directly under the porch from inside the house. We would rent this again in a heartbeat, so ditch your cell phones and the kids xbox and remember what it feels like to enjoy your family again.. great stay. True gift for the owners to share this with us!!

A beautiful spot, perfect for larger groups
The place is situated right on the river, feels very private, and comfortably accommodated our family reunion of 17 people ages 5 weeks to 72 years. The cabins are beautifully done, and the place includes great extras like lawn games and a large fire pit with marshmallow sticks hanging nearby. We ate meals at the long table on the porch, and the propane heater kept us comfortable even with cooler fall temperatures. We recommend paper plates if you have a group bigger than ours, and be sure you have room in someone's car to fit in the garbage on the way home. My favorite memory is sitting around the fire pit knitting with my cousins and watching the avid fishermen in our group catching trout. Thanks to the Wold family for sharing this magical place!

Perfect week at a perfect place.
Our family, 31 of us, gathered at the Swan River Retreat in July 2018 for a family reunion. The facility was perfect for our needs. The cabins featured comfortable beds, beautiful furnishings and a gorgeous location on the banks of the beautiful Swan River. Group meals were prepared in a fully-stocked kitchen and consumed together on the covered deck overlooking the river. With Glacier Park, Holland Lake, Flathead Lake and other outdoor destinations close by, the Swan River Retreat was a perfect place to gather for a week of fun and strengthening family ties. The Wolds were great hosts and had the property clean and ready for our arrival. We would highly recommend this property for an outstanding Montana experience!

A fantastic property!
We recently held our family reunion at the Swan River Retreat in Big Fork, Montana. The property was everything we had hoped for. The large yard allowed the younger kids plenty of room to play and the deck overlooking the river gave the adults a place to gather and catch up on family stories. We especially liked the 3 spacious cabins which gave individual families the ability to wake or sleep on their own schedules. The kitchen in the main house worked perfectly for preparing and serving meals for 25 people. The location of the property was perfect for enjoying the many close by day hikes and small lakes. This was a great place for our family reunion and was enjoyed by all of us. Thank you to Doug for letting us share this beautiful property.

Family reunion
This is a great place ! There were 16 of us and we had lots of room and the setting is beautiful. Even with warm weather it was nice and shaded, everyone loved it. However you should be aware that the owner expects you to get rid of the trash. It is 24 miles to the transfer station and we did not have room with running people to the airport. The cleaning fee is just a starting point, we left it clean and he added more cost to be deducted from the security deposit as well as added charge for the trash.

Magical
Please bear with me, as we have a long history here. We own a cabin just 1/4 mile downstream from the Swan River Retreat (the SRR). Our oldest daughter always wanted to get married at our cabin on the Swan River, so we put the plan into motion. Everything was looking great but we were having problems finding accommodations for the wedding guests, since the remoteness of this area is a BIG part of the beauty. Our daughter was looking at VRBO to see if there was anywhere close which could accommodate us. She stumbled across the SRR. The crazy part is that my brother actually used to own this property many years ago. As we live in the Seattle area, we had never looked at the property since he owned it. Over the years, the Wold family had created a magical retreat, adding guest cottages that blended in with the surrounding area, and adding onto the main cabin. It was purely magical for us. We had guests from Missoula, Tucson, the Seattle area, and as far away as Bristol, United Kingdom (a mere two hour drive west of London). The covered deck was absolutely PERFECT for serving the rehearsal and wedding dinners. Plenty of room for all, with views that are indescribable (and nice sun screens for the late afternoon). The openness was conducive to having a large crowd, but everyone also had their privacy with the nicely appointed guest cottages, complete with upper and lower decks. The fire-pit was used every night, as our guests relaxed and unwound; a great place for a glass of wine and conversation. The ever-present wildlife and critters galore helped make this place even that much more special. Although our daughter's wedding was held downstream a quarter of a mile, the open lawn area of the SRR (well shaded by native MT trees) would be ideal for an even such as that. Plenty of room for MANY people, and a perfect place for yard games. Finally, the beautiful Swan River. With the hot weather came a lot of swimming and soaking in the cool stream.
To summarize, the SRR was the perfect place for us, and we are so happy that our daughter found it. Many thanks to the Wold family. They have truly created a magical gem in the Swan. Without reservation, we would highly recommend the SRR for any large gathering.

Lovely spot. Quiet, private, peaceful.
We enjoyed a wonderful week's stay with family from home and abroad. We found plenty to do within a short distance: Glacier Park, Whitefish Mt., hike, boating. The property itself is great for kid activities and frequent swims in the stream. Everyone was comfortable. We highly recommend the Swan River Retreat .

This property is magical!
We had a family vacation with our children and 5 grandgirls. The property was exceptional in layout and details. Doug and Linda were most helpful in making the most of our experience. The cabins were all unique and provided space for all to settle in. Surrounding areas provided plenty of hiking and outdoor activites. The girls loved the fishing pond. We would reserve this spot again
