Ski Resorts in the West Coast

Washington

Mt. Baker Ski Area

Located about an hour south of the United States and Canada’s border, you’ll find Mt. Baker Ski Area in Bellingham, Washington.

The Summit at Snoqualmie

Just an hour away from Seattle, you’ll find The Summit in the area known as Snoqualmie Pass, Washington.

Crystal Mountain

Roughly two hours south of Seattle is Crystal Mountain Ski Resort located in Enumclaw, Washington.

Oregon

Timberline Lodge

Timberline Lodge is found in the region of Mount Hood, just an hour south of Hood River, and less than two hours away from Portland.

Close to the border of Oregon and California is Mt. Ashland Ski Area, in the town of Ashland, Oregon.

Mt. Ashland offers a “Mountain Fun Guarantee” which states that if you are not completely satisfies with the ski conditions within 45 minutes of purchasing your ticket, you can obtain a voucher with the same value for another day in the season.

Mt. Shasta Ski Park

Mt. Shasta Ski Park is on the north end of the Golden State, nestled in between Mount Shasta and McCloud, California.

Also located on the north side of Lake Tahoe is Sugar Bowl, in the locale of Norden, California.

Colorado

Echo Mountain

Just an hour west of Denver in Colorado’s very own Idaho Springs, Echo Mountain prides itself in being the most affordable ski resort in the area.

Copper Mountain sits on the ski area’s namesake city of Copper Mountain, Colorado about 75 miles away from Denver.

Wolf Creek

Last on our Colorado ski radar is Wolf Creek in Pagosa Springs, which upholds a reputation for getting the most snow in the entire state.

Montana

Whitefish Mountain Resort

Although Whitefish Mountain Resort in Whitefish is one of the top ski areas in Montana, lift tickets remain at an affordable rate!

Another popular, yet affordable ski resort in the Rocky Mountains is Bridger Bowl Ski Area, located in the snowy city of Bozeman, Montana.

Idaho

Schweitzer Mountain Resort

Sandwiched right in between Washington and Montana, you’ll find Schweitzer Mountain Resort in the city of Sandpoint, Idaho.

If you want to ski for even less, head to Schweitzer over the weekend for Sunday Solutions, granting you full mountain access for only $30 if you purchase tickets online, and $40 at the door. Our advice would be to book online for ultimate savings, and so you can double check to see that your dates aren’t excluded from the Sunday Solutions rates.

Brundage Mountain

Next on our affordable ski list is Brundage Mountain in McCall, Idaho.

Brundage Mountain – Full Day Lift Ticket Rates

  • Adult Ages 18 to 69: $74
  • Junior Ages 12 to 17: $42
  • Military: $49
  • Children 6 and Under: Free

Brundage offers a “Snow Check Guarantee” allowing you to buy a lift ticket at the window, then test a couple runs on the mountain to feel out the conditions. If you’re not happy with the snow conditions within one hour of purchasing your lift pass, you can return to the ticketing window to get a “snow check” for the value of your ticket, so you can use it on another day during the season.

Wyoming

Grand Targhee Ski Resort

In the peaks of the Grand Teton Mountain Range is Grand Targhee Ski Resort in Alta, about an hour away from Jackson, Wyoming.

Although holiday rates fall on the higher end of our budget, it’s definitely worth the mention. Aside from skiing and snowboarding, visitors can go on a snowmobile backcountry tour to Yellowstone National Park, offered by Teton Valley Adventures. These guided tours include everything you need for a backcountry winter adventure, including a snowmobile suit, boots, a helmet, and electric hand warmers.

Snow King Mountain

Commonly frequented by locals living in Jackson, Wyoming, the ski area of Snow King Mountain is a great destination for Jackson visitors who want to take a day-trip to the slopes.

If your little ones are too young to ski, Shawnee also offers Camp Shawnee babysitting services for $50 per day, or $6 per hour. In-resort babysitting services are hard to come by, so this is definitely a good find.

New Hampshire

Cannon Mountain

We’re rapping up our long list of budget-friendly ski resorts in New Hampshire, with the second to last ski resort being Cannon Mountain in Franconia, New Hampshire.

Mount Sunapee

Last but certainly not least, East Coast skiers and snowboarders can visit Mount Sunapee in Newbury, New Hampshire.
